I recently used a set of these. Very nice for the price! They have a sticky preservative oil coating the polished/ honed inside of the rings. A paper towel and rubbing alcohol cleaned them right up before mounting.

When screwing on the cylinder did you forget to add the rubber ring? I believe the ring comes with the package.
