Lovely dress 😻 Actually, the cloth known as muslin in Regency England was different from modern American muslin. It was a fine, lightweight semi-sheer (or very sheer!) cloth.
@HistoricalBelle17 күн бұрын
Thank you! And indeed, it is difficult to find such fine muslin as they had.
@annemarieskidmore519416 күн бұрын
IKEA has some fine white striped and spot opaque cotton curtains which here in the Uk we all use to make Regency dresses from.💕
@historical.isolde791814 күн бұрын
Yes, that is what I noticed. In the US, cotton calico is often called muslin (in addition, the making of a "muslin", or a mock-up, is what UK and Australia call a toile). A cotton voile is often a good semi-sheer substitute for Regency-style gowns.
@historical.isolde791814 күн бұрын
@@HistoricalBelle Look at cotton voile as a good alternative. Also, Burnley & Trowbridge usually has a few historical-style cotton muslin's that work if you have the budget.

At 09:45 you mentioned “gathering”, what does this mean in terms of this jacket? I am a beginner at this 😂
@HistoricalBelle17 күн бұрын
Hi, welcome and thank you for subscribing!! The tops of the sleeves of this jacket were called to be gathered in the pattern, but the fabric was so thick I ended up pleating the tops of the sleeves rather than gathering them.

Hi! Thank you for this video! It’s been a huge guide for me as I’ve almost completed my first 1860s dress :) I’m still unsure about underpinnings though- can I ask why you’ve only got one petticoat/no crinoline for this outfit? Was it for mobility purposes as a working woman?
@HistoricalBelle23 күн бұрын
I am so glad you found this video helpful! Yes, the reason I am not wearing a hoop/crinoline and just a corded petticoat is because it was a hot day and this is a work dress which one would wear to do physical labor, making a hoop/crinoline/many petticoats unpractical.

@honoraweaver788Ай бұрын
Yes, it was good. They tell a little story as they’re making it of how they get ethically sourced “pixie dust” (sugar) and use a dragon lighter (the dragons were from the Flambé family) to carmelize the sugar. It’s really cute.

I have to be brutally frank. The 2017 miniseries is my favorite adaptation of "Little Women". But . . . I have never been that impressed by the costumes and hairstyles featured in all of the seven adaptations I've seen. Not one.
@juanitajones69002 ай бұрын
There were two TV versions of Little Women between 1949 and 1994 - the BBC's 1970 miniseries and NBC's 1978 two-part TV movie.

i love your energy, and your kitty. is there any practical purpose for the ruffles or is it just for looks?
@HistoricalBelleАй бұрын
Thank you so much!! I think the ruffles are mainly decorative, but they also help make the end of the rump not so stark, and therefore help soften that line.
