Thank you for the talk, here is an interesting video where a young monk seems to very much remember his past life as a senior monk (in the same monastery) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mb6ce7ShuZaunXk.html

I'm just kidding around here but-.Every respectable teacher is saying "I don't know" . Hey , why don't you guys figure it out?? it's your job!!! hahaha But really it must be some complicated abstraction if it hasn't been clearly revealed to us..The Buddha mentioned rebirth and past lives I'm sure of it.. but I'm starting to think he would withhold superfluous knowledge as an expedient means for our own good. I'm okay with that too. It's probably like he wants us to learn to walk before we run. Like conquering suffering and the causes of suffering supersedes cosmic knowledge , that's probably it , right?! Or..the heart sutra let's say kind of alludes to the idea that birth ,death and being are all just concepts or illusions. While it's more apt to say there's vast transformation instead, this way we are very much reincarnated at the same time there isn't anything being reincarnated. So is this where we are dwelling, ah hah i think I've understood your video

Master bon soeng! Been a while. This film you’re talking about is so important to my adoption of my son ocean. As our marriage was falling apart, my soon to be exwife still wanted a larger family. This film inspired us to allow for both, adoption of our son ocean, a kind of unmistaken child to us, while we had faith together getting divorced through it and relocation across the country because of the effect this film had on us. We are coparents now in relative peace.

Thank you Marshall for covering this topic. As a physics undergraduate major, I knew of that story where scientists at one point thought they had the world all figured out, and only had to work out more decimal places. Quantum mechanics put and end to that idea in a metaphorical heartbeat. We are all connected. We are interbeing, to use Thich Naht Hanh's phrase. I'm afraid the person who commented that you have "no clue" does not appreciate our interconnectedness - one that is both phenomenal and spirtual. - Tommy

Right from your opening statement it is plain to see that you have no clue what is meant by detachment in Zen! Application of self in an observation does not change what is being observed, it simply changes one's understanding of what is being observed by marring clear sight with your own inner sight. It is entirely possible to disengage, to a greater than lesser extent, from what is being observed. And greater objectivity, clearer sight, can be gained by working to get over yourself. In areas of scientific research, for example, this detached observation is essential. It is matter of one using the correct tools in the correct manner. The 1st question of the vast majority of humans is "What is this thing to me?" when it should be, "What is this thing to its self?" And the whole principal is for one to "get over ones self". So get over yourself & to your own attachment to self. ;) “Those who know don’t talk. Those who talk don’t know. Close your mouth, block off your senses, blunt your sharpness, untie your knots, soften your glare, settle your dust. This is the primal identity. Be like the Tao. It can’t be approached or withdrawn from, benefited or harmed, honored or brought into disgrace. It gives itself up continually. That is why it endures.” - Tao Te Ching

We are all going to die, sure, but living might be worth it if there are good things in it, but why live when you realize that no good things are coming?

I find it amazing how KZfaq can be a rabbit hole that sucks one into shorts or meaningless and mindless entertainment, or can be this really helpful platform to bring is back and be very educational. I could listen to Master Bon Soeng all day and it would be beneficial to my life. Thank you sir.

I am practicing Zazen for many years and yet . . . Each time I sit or stand or walk I am a beginner . I hear Zen Master say ‘who is doing the sitting? Who is standing? Who is walking? ‘ and always the answer is ‘don’t know ‘ Until no self appears , don’t know remains
