I’ve been a fan since 1972 and their musicianship is still top notch. It appears MM is struggling vocally after all these years and changing cadence and structure isn’t helping, unfortunately. But, I’ll give him the benefit of doubt as maybe his voice is tired after almost nightly shows.

Horrible show, sound mix was way off. Muddy, weak, poorly mixed. Robert Cray on the other hand had great full rich sound. Very disappointed with the Doobie Brothers.

Rockin John Henry from Tulsa is responsible for my knowledge of our neighbor Jerry Lynn. Very sad to see these mostly unknown Okie icons gone.

I did this song with my band and always thought Delbert McClinton wrote it. A little more research as I am putting it back in the repertoire led me here and to knowing about Jerry Lynn Williams. Blown away.

That was such an amazing show. I was hugging the stage over to the left after leaving my seat. Roger Powell was sitting a bit to my right, sidelined by arthritis. As AWATS wrapped up he sat there, gently conducting the end to himself, slightly waving his arms. Amazing and sad.

Couldn’t find anything to watch on Prime. Got weirdly hooked on watching Veronica Mars. Had never heard of Veronica Mars or this song before watching the series. Loved both. Just shows, sometimes it’s worth taking a punt on something. As it might just pay off.
I knew Jerry when he was working on his Peacemaker album...remember sitting around the campfire next to his waterfall in Oklahoma and he pulled out a tape of Sending Me Angels that he just finished recording...loved it from the first time I heard it!

I saw them at King’s College London during a semester abroad and always remembered this song. I’m playing random songs that I always liked but never best for 23-year old daughter.
Happy Independence Day, great song for the 4th of July.

It's a direct steal from You've got to hide your love away. I love it, but it's so obvious.

@thom6746 Жыл бұрын
@@stevehoran5595 Very similar chord progressions in the verse, almost identical tempos, the melody line of the verse is almost identical to the Beatles song with added notes to make it busier. Costello does this a lot: uses another song as a model, tweaks it in several ways, and puts his stamp on it. Several songs on Get Happy are based on Booker T and the MGs greatest hits album. Motel Matches is a Dusty Springfield song. Pump it up is Dylan Subterranean Homesick Blues. Tokyo Storm Warning is 19th Nervous Breakdown. Oliver's Army is Abba's Dancing Queen. I love Costello, but it's obvious that he rewrites a lot of other people's songs. A lot of artists do this (Devo whip it is a steal of the guitar in Pretty Woman) but Costello does it so much that I wonder about his ability to be original rather than flagrantly derivative. P. S. I love this song.
@stevehoran5595 Жыл бұрын
@@thom6746 The tone is similar between the two songs; they're both folkie waltzes in G. But the melodies and the chord progressions are very different. So, I'm not denying they're similar. IIRC, Elvis would make a medley out of the two songs in concert. But "direct steal" is a gross exaggeration.
