Two great players, but Lendl was much more consistent. Unfortunately, Lendl faced the best players on grass ever and was unable to win Wimbledon...

I like the old conditions. Tennis should be played with a lively ball. The 30 shot rallys and bludgeoning a heavy ball, boring.

We hated this guy back then. Now I like and respect him. In hindsight he was a pioneer. Such a wicked backhand. If I had to admire one trate of Ivan that would be his focus. Pinpoint focus. Amazing tennis player.

Lendl easily dominated Bruguera in that match, showing once again to be one of the strongest players on clay ever. Unfortunately, he was not at his peak any longer and had lost consistency, but in "good days" he could still beat the best players...

If Lendl had the ultra modern strings of today back in his 1980s early 1990s era l think he might well have been the most powerful power baseliner tennis ever I mean he might well have been a worthy and consistent challenger to the Big Three.

Every match was difficult at Wimbledon for Ivan. Tennis was very different: Many players were not playing at Roland Garros for this tournament. And many players at Roland Garros didn't come to play on grass.

McEnroe’s biggest strength was his ability to take the ball on the rise taking time away from you. As years went by, he lost (due to age) the spring on his first step to the ball which at this level is crucial.

Connors was past his best and Lendl was in at his best. But when you watch the video, is actually Connors who takes the risks by going to the net and trying to hit winners wile Lendl is kind of waiting for his opponent to make a mistake. With a bit more stamina, Connors would have given Lendl a much harder time in this semis

Surprised I'm the first commenter on this. Grand Slams meant everything to Lendl during the time he lost to Chang in that famous French Open match. Lendl had every reason to hold a grudge for the tactics Chang used to win. I heard a story (from Chang) that Lendl actually congratulated him for winning the 89 French Open when they ran into each other at Wimbledon 89. I'm glad it didn't become anything personal that would drag on for years. Both great champions.

The way Lendl approached Roldan at the end.. (@53:53) the handshake.. in his eyes you can see the lack of respect for his opponent.. but also the negatively charged demeanor causing him never to exude any enjoyment while playing or being on court; vintage Lendl.

I remember getting ready to watch a match of his, any match. He would go to 3-3 or say 2-2 and that was when he'd break the opponent, and gone was the set. He was amazing at being constant

Lendl's reaction @16:14 .. what a ... charming man. The consistent head movement after a point one.. as if he's pumping himself up.. didn't know he did so much of it! Seems like a tick .. or some autistic thing.. same as with his pulling up of one of his shoulders sometimes.. as if he's not at ease. at the time I was actually rooting for Lendl.. him being nr 1 and because of his mechanics.. it looked more esthetically pleasing. But his whole demeanor.. like.. in e v e r y match.. such gloom and lack of joy.

Sure Edberg favored charging to the net.. and is therefore known as a "specialist".. ; even though Lendl obviously favored baseline rally's .. his serve volley was as good as Edberg's.

When I was young, I only had one TV channel and could only watch a few tournaments. What a joy, 35 years later, to be able to see so many. There are only certain videos (not this one) that remind us that 35 to 40 years have passed, because the game itself is timeless. Ivan Lendl was my absolute favorite. (from belgium)
