Brilliant! After 13.5 years of teaching, I am becoming a math specialist teacher for 2nd/3rd grades this year - this helps me dig in and make things more exciting for the kids as they learn, practice, stretch, and grow! This helps my 90-minute block seem effective and efficient and super organized!!!! Thank you!!!!!!

how do you handle complaints when students finish? I mean, it happens to me that they finish their task but they complaint because you ask to continue working another piece of writing when they finish fast.

Thanks for the video, as someone who has no formal training, this really helped to break down the elements that I have to teach when filling in as a substitute tutor

Very helpful video but I have a question about the group setting. You said have 5-6 students as a small group with you while others are working on their review lesson. It means one group will spent30-35 minutes on the review while you are with one group for 15 minutes. There are three groups of students. Isn't it too much for them?

When groups aren't working in a small group, they can work on a variety of things! I love to use a system of math centers that are self paced and reviewing previous content. I also love to use a "ticket out" or an application task that matches the daily lesson or a previous skill taught. This gives students lots to do when they are not in small group. It does take time to set up these expecatations in the classroom, but it is so worth it!

Hi there! I'm an ESL teacher in training in the BA tesol certification program. I'm looking for a thing, a teacher resource, and I think it exists but I'm not sure what the name is. Maybe you can help? I'm looking for a set of cards, pre-made or as a template form, the size of a notecard, but not for kids Ike the task cards are. I am looking for something that is for teacher lesson planning, Like with one activity on each card, and then when you plan your lesson you can go to your "activity box" like a recipe box, r task card box, find the ones you want and then play with the order of the activities until you have a full lesson! Then add the theme, add the objectives, and you're good to go. Can you help me out, does this already exist? I asked my teacher but she said it is a common approach but otherwise wasn't helpful. I've searched for activity lesson planning cards for teachers.. various searchers. I think I'm not using the right words. Or maybe what I'm thinking of doesn't actually eexist. Ideally I would have a section below for checkmarking the features of the activity like language in context, input, output, meaningful, mechanical, communicative, guided practice, controlled practice, freer practice, student centered, teacher centered, Deductive, inductive, implicit, explicit, low level critical thinking, high leve critical thinking, etc Thanks for any input you have! I enjoyed your video, Thanks for the tip

I love to use the snap cubes when teaching about adding and subtracting fractions & for mixed fractions and improper fractions. I have tote of all different colors and the students love to pick out their own color combinations to make their fractions. Another manipulative I use are dominoes for adding/subtraction, and multiplication.

I might have missed it but where do you teach these in your reading workshop? Do you use 1 day of your reading workshop to teach and then when do kids work on the passages? Whole group or small group? Thanks!

What about the interactive notebook activities in your units? Do you still have kids glue in those pages? Jamie has talked many times about dividing the notebook into thirds and having a "masterpiece" section in their journals. Now do the kids only use writing journals for INB pages and diary entries, etc? For the daily writing tasks connected to the mini-lesson, do the kids write on loose papers? Sorry for all the questions but I was super excited to follow the NSWT writing units and now I'm confused how to set it up.

Our writing journals are a key piece of our writing curriculum, still! Our interactive journal pages, the writing tasks that go in each lesson, and their ongoing masterpiece work is all happening in the writing journal! What we are not using the journal for is free writing or students just responding to prompts!

Will you be making a 4th grade bundle?
@35ATeacher

I'm new to teaching 4th grade this year and noticing that many of my students have poor spelling skills, including my at- and above-grade level readers. Since you don't have a 4th grade spelling bundle do you recommend that I purchase the 3rd grade bundle? My hope is to teach spelling whole group on the same skill this year but with differentiated lists so your bundle sounds perfect. Or do you have another product or suggestion for triaging my 4th graders? Thanks for creating such awesome products!!
