Hi thank you for your excellent video, it really helped clarified things a lot. I do have a (perhaps silly) question though, what if I'm addressing a group of people whom I just know? I'm assuming in present tense, that will still be: mluvite česky and in past tense, it will be mluvili jste česky (mixed or male groups) mluvily jste česky (female only group)

Hello, what's the difference between "Ďe" and "Dě" ? Does "Ďe" exist in Czech ?
@ladislavmasopust9017Ай бұрын
Good question! ĎE, ŤE, ŇE do not exist in Czech. The hook is always over E in these combinations, so it's always DĚ, TĚ, NĚ.

"Reading is very simple in Czech" Ahh yes, and "strč prst skrz krk" is famously very simple to read, you just have to invent the sound of the nonexistent vowels in your mind as you read it...
@ladislavmasopust9017Ай бұрын
Yes, spelling and reading in Czech can be really easy when you realize that most of the words look like their phonetic transcriptions when written down :)

It is not easy to pronounce the letter "Ř", it's the peculiarity of the Czech language and after this consonant you immediately realize that someone isn't a native Czech speaker. Even the Slovaks, who speak a language similar to Czech, do not completely manage to say "Ř" correctly, pronouncing approximately Rž. And YES, some Czech children go to a logopedist for this "Ř"!
@ladislavmasopust9017Ай бұрын
That is true, it really is not easy to master the sound, and it is sometimes quite noticeable in Slovak speakers who speak Czech. However, I also know a lot of native Slovaks who have perfect Ř and also some non-slavic speakers who learnt it perfectly, like Mickey ;)
@laszlovondracsekАй бұрын
@@ladislavmasopust9017 No tak, v tomto pripade gratulujme Mickeymu! Ja kdyz jsem byl maly kluk, chodil jsem k logopedovi pro ten "Ř"!!!

The normal R in Czech was easy to learn for, as I'm from Germany and we have many speakers of Slavic languages here. So when they speak German, some keep their accent with R. Similar to English the Ř sound doesn't exist in my native. I had to train that for two months every day, before I got it almost right. Still have my struggle with it though. Sometimes I bite my tongue, when I say "čtyři" for example. XD
@ladislavmasopust90172 ай бұрын
Cool, with enough practice it's all possible, isn't it! But yeah, there are some tricky words there in Czech. :) As there are many of those in German!
