maybe it's true. the guy that said originally that they found the password for the file maybe actually did, and was the one providing the 16 character information. they also said it was important stuff in there, so the things you talked about (keys for other stuff, the xbox version with its codes) would make sense.

The first time someone claimed to have decrypted the file, they said it could be harmful if it gets in the wrong hands. So I agree with theory no. 1: Mojang couldn't share it, because of legal limitations.

ummm Notch.. . lie to people to their face.... Never, nor would another developer that shares notches views on things.... impossible. That said, I suspect it has been opened and even if someone showed it now... it would be dismissed as bunk and the group/person would be buried so deep in lawyers it's not even funny. Not that MS would care.... but, they wouldn't want a golden boy to be tarnished, and I suspect that it has more to do with mojang just being naughty naughty with actual code. MS wouldn't give 2 shits about an OG Xbox dev kit & software 'now', nor a license for dev software. They might send a lawyer to talk to you, but it likely wouldn't be worth their time & would more likely take the chance to take a pr win. It being a console build of a version that's so incompatible that you flat out couldn't upgrade or downgrade the current versions to it if your life depended on it. Given the history of notch ... I suspect it was ... something far dumber & more ... malicious (unrelated to users or the game), as they would have access to that bucket as a whole & a sub 100MB wouldn't even blink twice in a zone where they've likely got some version control rolling, along with multiple versions, for multiple systems, and even developer only notes/code/builds. Sure no one back then might have even guessed or thought it was reasonable to say such things about notch... but, with a bit of reflection about who he is now & what has happened.... People are still complaining about the chat reporting feature more than 2 years after it came out and had no big apocalyptic effect on the game that they said it will bruh. They remind of all the dudes that instantly come out in suport of whatever big celeb gets outed for SA that week, cuz "muh false accusations". What you so afraid of bro? Self report much? Why are none of them complaining about chat reporting in other games that are MULTIPLAYER ONLY, like overwatch, counter strike, leage of legends, or world of warcraft? There you get banned and you cant even play the game at all. That seems a lot worse than still having access to LITERALLY YHE ENTIRE GAME just without other people. "but muh private server" yeah what about it? Why would YOUR OWN FRIENDS report you? Are that awefull of a person that they'd do that? Are they that awefull of people that they'd report you falsely? Why are you even friends then? And why are you even talking in game chat in stead of a discord call? And you just know a lot of the people complaining about it dont even play modern version and are still stuck in the past on their 1.8 pvp servers, cause they're the same people that complained about minecraft being runied by the combat update 8 YEARS AGO. And before that complained about the adventure update runing the game 4 YEARS BEFORE THAT. Its a never ending cycle, these people will never be pleased or placated no matter what the game does, and WILL make it everyone elses problem in stead of JUST PLAYING A DIFFERENT GAME
