At this point I just use Instagram as a social media portfolio for my art. I have a website, but most people who ask to see examples of my work, I just let them have a quick scroll through my IG. I have 1.5k followers and get no engagement, no views, nothing. I'm in the process of revitalizing my KZfaq channel after 4 years away because other platforms are just not doing it for me. I'm ready to be in front of the camera again and know I'll get seen by other creatives wanting to learn about art. I'm so tired of making shorts and reels. When I was teaching and working at a community college, I always recommended people try affinity since honestly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator are industry staples- and for me, having Affinty and Procreate pretty much handle MOST stuff people need. Right now the adobe master suite with my discounts is like 68/month, and if your internet is spotty you’re not using adobe. Procreate and Affinty lets you use your brush assets and stuff, so it’s not a bad thing. Thank you for sharing! 6 months plus the huge library of assets here on KZfaq, I agree will give people time to learn.

I think the worst thing about Instagram is the trending audios. I can’t tell you how much I hate doom scrolling on there and watching a bunch of videos with the same audio. Like why? It makes me hate this song and it’s so unoriginal.

I subbed because you make some very good points. Just for background I am a Gen-X man and I take the opposite approach for a few reasons. First, I have a full time job, so I don't really need the passive income (although it would be nice). Second, and much more controversially, I am into AI art so my approach on IG is more quantity over quality. That isn't to say I don't attempt to try to make something that looks aesthetically pleasing but I would estimate 1/3 of the stuff I post is pretty pedestrian while 1/3 is middling, and 1/3 is actually quite good. The advantage I have is that if I really focus I can churn out 20 pictures in a 3 hour period meaning I can pretty easily hit 100-200 images per month without egregious effort. Now my expectation is that in a year I can have 2400 images, with about 800 being something very visually interesting. Now these won't be things that would make great large posters but they could make a pretty cool t-shirt or mug logo or something like that. The biggest advantage I have in this space is that I don't need to sell anything or get any views to keep my bills paid. That gives me a lot of freedom to experiment with different techniques and styles. Before I get flamed I want to make it clear I go out of my way to make sure I am not using controversial engines like Midjourney that have had some scandals around training on copyrighted work. That said, I can't 100% guarantee that the models I use don't have some unethical training going on behind the scenes, but at least they claim to be above board and if you were to see my work you'd find it very difficult if not impossible to say I was copying a particular artist. I eventually plan to build up my KZfaq channel with animations drawn from these images, a few of which you can see right now by clicking on my username. I know I am risking some nasty comments admitting to using AI, but I am upfront about it and definitely not trying to steal anybody's lunch. Anyhow, that's my two cents and I wish you well on your YT creator journey.

You are 100% correct that more isn't always better. More content generation doesn't mean it's good content to interact with, it just means more of an opportunity to get lambasted with repetitive "make sure you guys watch 'til the end" dialogue so metrics can be hit. There are plenty of channels on KZfaq in various genres/categories that would make Instagram go into a psychopathic spiral with how infrequently they post content, but the content is so unique and engaging that it's often worth the wait. Channels like SovietWomble, Jenny Nicholson, ContraPoints, and similar are a few examples of the infrequent-but-good creators. They put time and effort into their work. I think if you have the same ideals, you'll do well on KZfaq.

You had me at "F Instagram". I'm SAT. I just deleted IG from my phone. No hate on those who cracked the IG algo - that is awesome!! But it's just not for me for all the reasons in this video.

Just to let you know, I honestly haven't seen you before, I honestly have no idea what kind of content you do and I don't have instagram (never had one). But I liked this from the start. I have been searching (on the youtube search bar) for people leaving instagram for Cara and "why". Maybe that's why this was recommended to me at 221 views from a channel that I never watched before. This is not the first time this happens. Every day I come on youtube, I get 1 or 2 or even more feed recommendations from videos (sometimes with 1 single view) from creators I have never seen before. So yeah, you made the best decision to switch from Instagram to KZfaq. Edit: Actually, after going to your videos, I found that I already watched your Instagram/Cara video. I definitely found that through the search bar and I watched it to the end, so I guess KZfaq thought "Hey, he watched it to the end, maybe he likes this creator, now the creator uploaded a new video with a similar topic, let's recommend it to him again, heeey, he watched it again till the end, maybe he's a follower, let's keep recommending it all the time now". This has been the process on my feed for a few channels and now I simply cannot not watch those videos, even if I'm not subscribed (subscription means nothing here), because I get new upload recommendations sometimes after 10 seconds if I get lucky with refreshing the home page (and guess what, I watch it! 😁). KZfaq works different.

To support your point at 5:20, this very video got suggested to me when it had only about 100 views and was posted a few hours ago. KZfaq is not NEARLY as much of a popularity contest as Instagram. 👌🙂 (Even my microscopic new channel - 42 subscribers - has a few videos with 200 or 300 hundred views. One of my Shorts has 400 views.)

One step ahead of you. 🙂 👌 I started focusing on KZfaq over Instagram at the beginning of this year. Instagram has been dead af (for non-mega-popular art accounts) for a couple years. I only still have an IG acct to see what my buddies are doing on there since some of them haven’t left there. I’m aiming to build my KZfaq following up, and I’m sharing art for fun on Cara and in some YT community posts. (YT community posts seem so underused/underappreciated to me 🥲)

IG is just more curated Tik tok. YT is king

Yes IG doesn’t paid, they only paid me ones then stop completely and demonetized me conpletely, no matter what content I posted even though was what they asked and no matter how many emails or help I asked and they did nothing and never replied, still says my content is up to monetized it’s doesn’t at all.
