12 volt chest freezers instead of the built in and always run on ECO mode. A CB radio and a long antenna. A small four cycle air cooled outboard motor. A sextant and a cheap GPS. 12 volt brushless fans. All LED lights instead of tungsten. I intend to use a small air cooled diesel for electric and propulsion. It disperses very little dry heat and sips fuel. Leaky fuel and water tanks don't cut it.

What is required up front is seamanship. Many boats under 30' has and have successfully crossed oceans. Your opinion is one of the many.

Great Vid! Recently retired, I've been tossing around the idea of just cruising. Selling my boat for something newer & bigger. But you & others are changing my mindset that my 37' Cherubini Cutter rig (although old) checks almost all the boxes. But it will need some modern upgrades 😊

You need this interface, and this adapter, and a serial port, and a power supply and a USB hub and...the list just went on and on and I thought...I would get lost just trying to work out what I needed let alone getting them and making them work. I bet this video is fabulous for some people though.

Well water makers can also run on electricity which can be generated by the sun. That’s what we have and it doesn’t cost us any diesel.

Nice job! Except for the expanding foam, as far as I understand using anything expanding in deck repairs is another big no-no... Also, why add the barrier if you could have injected epoxy further in to prevent the empty holes?

I hope you have learned the words "conformal coating" for waterproofing the electronics. Raspis are not particularly rugged and i can imagine they'll fail eventually.

I have a much, much better solution and rule of thumb in answer to the question posed in this video: "If you can fly it, float it or fu&k it, rent it." Anything else is a foolish choice.

I am retiring soon and I am looking at buying a Mexican registered boat that I will store in summer. Probably a 30ft cruiser. Is insurance for a Mexican registered boat cheaper? How are the winter storage options in the Caribbean?

Most folks plan to buy a boat, cross oceans, and cruise extensively and indefinitely. Most folks and most boats never will, but instead, will spend their days and nights in marinas with occasional trips up and down the coast. Even dedicated cruisers are really only "at sea" for about 10% of the time. Therefore, buying a "true blue water vessel" is a colossal waste of money and only pandering to unrealistic sailing fantasies. It also will adversley affect comfort at the dock as well as wrangling "the ship" in and out of the slip. Do you really need that big bowsprit spear or huge fuel tanks? What about built-jn ice boxes in the galley instead of a working refrigerator? Wake up, you're dreaming.

The greenish color is a soft corrosion that becomes a protective layer. If you remove it the protection goes away and further corrosion will recreate the layer. I suggest googling "bronze patina" or something like that. If you really want the bronze look, you need to apply some protective layer to prevent the greenish look.

Yeah, you always wonder in these situations, did they run into health issues or worse, did they break up, did they just decide it wasn't worth doing anymore..., anyway I don't plan on doing a sailing channel but looking at getting into sailing

I sail an Ericson 35-3 out of Marina del Rey. I am interested in sailing in the Carribean full time, and was wondering where to go and the most friendly islands to live aboard inexpensively while working remotely on the boat. Great video!
