Great talk about your Troopys! Honestly I am thinking about making the switch and diving into a Troopy. Been rocking a Vanagon Syncro for many years. They are also a van which makes the Troopy very compelling but with Toyota reliability. The syncro is really fun and simple and raw as well but they breakdown all the time it's starting to feel like driving an antique. Any advice on making the leap?

Great vid. Glad to see you and the Troopy have seemingly recovered from the Alaskan “adventure”! Bowman Lake seems need to add to my list. Wondering what are those rear door table brackets? I’m doing a Cargo Trailer conversion and those would be ideal for my rear door.

Thank you! 🙏 definitely add it to your list if you’re ever in the area! The rear table came from GP Factor. Pretty sure you can find similar latches by searching for rotary latches. This is a micro two stage rotary latch.

Ha, yeah ... driving this things is the best but very exhausting. I am driving my swb BJ70 since 2004 and to make it a little more enjoyable i added a 4° wedge between the front axle and the spring to change the caster angle. That helps a little to keep the old beast straight on the road and forces the steering wheel to center itself due to more self-aligning torque. The pinion angle gets a little worse but beeing a part time 4wd with unlockable hubs makes this less a problem for the driveline.

Something could go wrong. May be, could be but must not. You know me, my experiences with Troopys over the last years in heavy terrain, deserts, sand, rocks, and the most horrible mud in Spain. We walked right into the trap, neither forward nor backwards, mud like ice😢 in a steep slope and drop sharply, no turn round. What to do? The only possibility we had was going backwards the steep slope in this muddy track. Thanks to the Troopy, she was like an animal. And that is why Troopys are so reliable in difficult situations. Greetings and much fun from Germany from my 78 TLC.

Hi Ben, truest statement ever, the perfect vehicle is the one you already have, it was a renault clio sedan, 10 years i had that vehicle and i bought it from my father, amazing vehicle, made me travel and know a lot of places i didnt know about my country (Chile) and Argentina but it was struggling in remote places, so almost 6 years ago an opportunity came and i sold the clio and bought a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder (R50), and 4wd changes everything, i felt even more motivated to go off the grid, no fancy modifications, with time a 2 inches lift and AT Tires, the rest is standard but i did invest in recovery equipment (no winch yet) and keep it mechanically impecable, almost 270.000 Km and going strong!, i will keep an eye on that book when it releases (and i hope you write a book of this adventure too) and i hope when you get over here eventually, at least i can share a cup of Coffee!
