The descriptor you're looking for is "TWEE". It was a music-industry "novelty song" that was written by someone else, given to him to perform. Yes, he was only 17(?) on variety show Bandstand. He very quickly became adored by mothers and girls as a result of this cutesy song, but songwriters saw him as a one-trick pony (hated & DISREGARDED him as too twee). BOY, WERE THEY WRONG! The women - and I - were right! Sadly, this song became his albatross around his neck, yet his concertgoers always demanded hearing it, because this was why we fell in love with him. Twee was his prologue. 😊🎵🎼🥇🏆🎻🎶🎤🥰

For some great Aussie rock, checkout AC/DC; their 20th anniversary performance of Thunderstruck live from River Plate, is some of their best. Australia has a diverse range of rock styles, too many bands to mention here; but this is a start.

John also performed in musical theatre, both on Australian and New York stages; you need to react to his performance of Gethsemane, from the Australian musical of Jesus Christ Superstar.

John first sang this version of the Beatles classic song in 1980, he also performed it in an Australian Command Performance in front of Queen Elizabeth; this performance from 1989 is leaps and bounds in front of his orginal performance, it's a tribute to the calibre of him as an artist.

Thank you for your wonderful reaction to Guy. Australians are bursting with pride at Guy. He hasn't always had it easy, with criticism about his looks by his peers, not fitting what is considered the standard look in the music industry. But he has excelled with his talent for song writing and his incredible vocals.

John was asked by Queen to replace Freddy after he passed but John always put his family and country first. Just keep finding his live performances - he is fantastic and never disappoints. ❤❤❤

Originally sang by two soul singers called Sam and Dave in 1967. Jimmy and John are two of our best singers and Diesel is a an underrated talent on his own!

Flame trees are deciduous trees that grow in the coastal region south of Sydney. They bear brilliant red flowers before the leaves appear, and are quite spectacular. I think you were pretty spot on with your interpretation of the lyrics - a small town, where little has changed since he left, except for a lost love. The chorus sums it up: Oh the flame trees will blind the weary driver And there's nothing else could set fire to this town There's no change, there's no pace, everything within its place Just makes it harder to believe that she won't be around. The lyrics were written by keyboardist Don Walker, who spent his early years in Grafton (current population 19,000), 600km north of Sydney. I agree with other comments, it's one of my favourite Chisel songs, and provides a great example of the meaningful lyrics in their songs.

Spent many years listening to Chisel. This song reminds me of Saturday night drinks with mates. The line ‘Number 3 is never say her name’ just takes me back to seeing a mate with his cheeky grin. So many good memories.

St George fights the dragon but is changed and comes back to view his maiden through changed eyes. Fascinated and repulsed by the stresses and horrors of war, he seeks a futile form of purpose or relief in the form of a Chinese prostitute, a dark parody of the maiden.
