Don't compare Slough to other leafy Berkshire towns. It's closer in feel to neighbouring West Drayton and Hayes. The high street is a dump but so are most these days. The grammar schools are some of the best schools in the country. Outer parts like Langley, Colnbrook and Burnham are nice.

They also know that the islands will now never be Argentinian but very few will openly admit this. I’m sorry but Equatorial Guinea was also governed from The Vice Royalty of the Rio de la Plata until 1810, so good luck in claiming “inheritance” in that arena . The natives of west Africa were held in as much regard as the people of the conquered pampas, and Argentina’s claim on that is based on the grounds that they are just “Argentinian” and conquered. Before 1982, the British asked Argentina to put their case before The Hague. The F&CO wanted this settled and were putting pressure on the islanders to either accept a compromise or accept Argentinian sovereignty. Pressure to the extent of stifling their ability to expand their economy. Inviting more Argentinian involvement in communications and refusing to allow them to establish secondary education on the islands and instead, complicity pushing them to study in Argentina. Even then, Argentina refused independent legal arbitration because the legal and historical argument for Argentinian original sovereignty is flimsy. That is just so very obvious. Just like in the Beagle Chanel dispute which nearly resulted in war but eventually, Argentinians had to accept the fact that the Picton and Lennox islands cause; was also a big myth for which there’s once been indoctrinated. . The same question regarding The Hague was asked by a reporter of Carlos Menem after the Madrid accord was singed and he replied “it’s not suitable”. (How can he say that when one of the major functions of the UNICJ are these exact disputes??). This is how it stands today. Even if the British didn’t have a claim before 1833 (in fact they had a strong claim then), the Argentinian pretence today is unjustified. In reality, no nation or the UN will support a return to pre 1833 borders. Imagine the precedence that would set? A large swathe of Misiones being returned to Paraguay, Texas to Mexico, Schleswig Holstein to Denmark, Istanbul (Constantinople) to Greece etc. Thousands and thousands of displaced people. As it stands today, it is for people to decide the destiny of the territory and not the territory the destiny of the people. Argentina once stood by this or else they wouldn’t have agreed to the referendum for the Colonia de 16 Octubre which was exposes Argentinian hypocrisy as much as the situation of the Chagosssians expose British double standards. However, judging by this video, the difference is the attitude of the British people as opposed to these indoctrinated nationalist fanatics being interviewed who don’t appear to understand that they’re discussing the lives and freedom of men women and children. They belong to the islanders and it is for them to decide their future and that of their homeland. Therefore, that future can be a number of outcomes and the British will support every one of them. Even unification with Argentina if the islanders so wanted it. Or it could be independence as a single state or unification with Uruguay or even the creation of a new united island state alongside Tristan da Cunha and St Helena. To Argentina, there can only ever be one outcome. Argentinian sovereignty. That translates to forced subjugation or ethnic cleansing. How can anyone support that in the 21st century?

Argentina NEVER owned the Falkland Islands. Sadly, the combination of a military junta trying to become popular in Argentina and a British prime minister making jingoist remarks for similar reasons while destroying the economy sent a lot of men to their deaths and harmed the economies of both countries.
