Why would a breeder breed not only a pig with satin syndrome but breed guinea pigs together with the wrong genetics..... A good breeder would know the genetics of their animals and carelessly breeding guinea pigs with bad genetics is shitty.

Oh yea I totally agree. She was not a good or ethical breeder, and she claimed some BS about “strengthening the gene” which is just…. Not how genetics work. I got Stardust from her as a retired sow, not as a product of her breeding. And when she passed I sent her a very strongly worded message and I’ve noticed she hasn’t been active on Facebook, so maybe she stopped breeding.

Try to use news papers on the bottom of the litter boxes but still sanitize the litter boxes it's really helpful oh and add towels under the water proof fleece

❤ having had 3 hedgehogs in our home in our lifetime and rescue and releasing a native one ,just a bit of advice,gut load meal worms with carrots it makes them tastier plus they get the veg nutrition, plain water in a clean pan and boil a piece of chicken breast only give tiny amounts of that great for protein and boiled egg yoke again a tiny amount occasionally of that.the mealworms can be given a floor time just one or two because too many can make them overweight and it will lead to other issues ,all of ours have been on fleece and do really well also a litter tray with wooden not paper litter.hope some of that advice helps and will save you money too.

I don’t know anything about Guinea pigs but you could maybe put some sort of playpen in the middle of the room like put an obstacle course or some special toys or something in there to keep them entertained

Ember is so cute Autumn! love seeing updates on her and your other animals! I know how you feel about the live bugs! I have a bearded dragon and she eats live bugs as well. I have to use a long pair of tongs to pick up the bugs (roaches, crickets, superworms, etc.) because they gross me out lol!

Personally, 2 Guinea pigs are more work. I have 3 piggies and 1 rabbit. They both have their pros and cons. I find my rabbit super easy to take care of, she poops and pees in her litter box with a few accidents. However, Guinea pigs poop and pee way more I find and they have a harder time staying in one area to do their business. They also make significantly more mess. With my rabbit, she warmed up very quickly. The Guinea pigs are still very shy and timid even after years of handling. Then there is the grooming part. Rabbits are bigger so I find it easier to trim their nails and brush them. Guinea pigs are small and they usually give me a harder time with nail trims. You also have to take into consideration their living needs. They both need large spaces and require lots of hay, fresh veggies, as well as pellets and water.

I'm only speaking from a position of reptile keeper and I know nothing about hedgehog diet so this might be unnecessary comment but I'll still leave it just in case 😅 it's better to be careful with feeding wax worms, it's generally recommend to only use them as a rare treat since they're quite fatty and apparently super delicious to the reptiles. It's even possible for reptiles to develop an addiction when they're fed wax worms too often (at least it happens to leopard geckos). Again idk if this could happen to hedgehog as well though

I only learned about it thanks to a video from Jessica's animal friends, she has a playlist dedicated to describing the pros and cons of various feeder insects and it really helped me out, when I was starting with my leopard geckos 😊 good luck on your feeder insect journey, it's really super uncomfortable at the beginning but you kinda get used to it with time (though it's been 4 years and I still absolutely refuse touch a roach 😅)
