The owner made custom exhaust to make it quieter for parading. I could hear him nudge the throttle from halfway across the showgrounds. It sounds beautiful, but it is by no means stealthy!

I spent every summer as kid riding on the bar in the front of the cab with my grandpa cutting wheat until I got to big for him to see over me to be able to see the right side of the Header, then I had to start riding in the door standing up or sitting on the floor with my feet on the ladder…..that old 960 even though it was well past it’s prime still cut and cleaned wheat as good as any $300,000 machine on the market at that time in the late 80’s and early 90’s sadly grandpa passed in June of 96 right before wheat Harvest that year and that old machine ended up in the bone yard of his brothers Case dealership and was later crushed for scrap 😢 even though I haven’t heard it in over 25yrs I can still hear that straight piped Chrysler Industrial Slant Six humming along in my memories
