The government has always been wrong with their rule "if you want to make a claim for benefits, you need to be available for and actively seeking employment". Not to mention their old rule that if you fail to attend signing and/or have been signing on for a certain amount of weeks, then you'll have your benefit stopped! Or just be sent on another dead-end course! Not to mention, if you didnt except a job which you could clearly do, then, agaain, you'd have your benefit stopped! I created "Unity" on facebook a few years back with my public posts regarding the government and all their wrong doings. and what do ya know, they Introduced "Universal Credit" without the need to sign on. Im now 44 but was unfairly evicted from my home when i was 21 all because of the "governments Rules". i .e I use to forget to sign on quite a lot (i have a bad memory) and this would often create a gap in my claim and in turn a gab in my housing benefit. Dont get my wrong, i did have rent arrears but these arrears would be magnified by my benefit often being stopped. I had lived at my home with my mum since i was 4. my mum died when i was 15 (before i left school) and a few years later i was evicted for failure to pay rent that i shouldnt have even been paying as i was in receipt of benefits. i will never forgive the government for my losing my flat. After all, i was on roughly £75 every 2 weeks and was expected to pay roughly £10 rent. then water rates and gas and leccy and food!!! i could barely afford to smoke roll ups! All because of the governments Rule of what ages they deem you need to "live on" I'm from the UK and if other countries are benefiting from this "Universal Credit", then this is yet another example of the government still needing to learn a thing or two. They need to "look after their own" before they start helping support other countries! I'm now on much better money, still on benefits but better money... No doubt due to my age! i STILL cant believe that when i was 17 - 21 i was ONLY on £75 fortnight! no one can live on that!!! As for employment, it should be a choice! no one should have to work and we certainly shouldn't have our benefit stopped for not looking for work! we have a right to be "PROTECTED" by our government which is the point of the benefit system. some say the benefit system shouldnt be seen as an income but an "allowance" whilst on benefit until you find employment. We shouldn't have to work, its a choice! These job centres have signs up saying "helping you back to work" but they aren't helping people back to work if they still have stupid rules like the past! The best thing the government did was abolish "signing on". Because, i ALWAYS knew even when i was 17-21 that the government expecting us to sign on in order to receive benefits was nothing more than a "control thing". i always knew that we didn't even need to sign on in order to receive our benefits! they could post it automatically!. i use get a giro every fortnight. They aren't helping us back to work at all, they were forcing us to seek employment with the use of the "job search record" they would give us when we first made a claim! I researched tongiht how much benefit i would be entitled to if i was 18 nowadays, and i was surprised to learn that it was just under £300 monthly! i wish i had been on £300 when i was 18! I only got £75 fortnightly (£150 monthly). Had i been on £300 monthly, i wouldnt have been evicted from home when i was 21! i lost everything! as all my belongings ended up in an empty dusty car garage because i had nowhere to put it! and if it wasnt for my sister who lived 2 bus rides away, i would have ended up on the street all because the government deemed i need to live on back then was £75 fortnightly plus i had bills to pay etc! I wanted to be a Counsellor from the age of 17 and wanted to work from home. I wanted to work! BUT, the only reason i didnt enroll on a course was due to my current at the time financial situation which made my life so depressing! At the age of 22 i was introduced to Pc's (computers) and later learnt what a webcam was and how to use it. whatsmore, i learnt of "chatrooms" and instantly wanted to host my own webcam chatroom on my own website. But dont want to do a course as have done my fair share of I.T courses and just want to pay someone to build my website so i can work from home. I am currently on benefits and dont have to work but i want to work from home but need someone with the knowledge / know-how to build a website for me. Had i been on £300 monhtly when i was 18 - 21, i'd have been more willing to enrol on a course to help get myself into a job i wanted! I currently live in Birmingham but come from Hayes, middlesex and would LOVE to move back to Hayes! (UK) P.S This is a prime example of the government being (was) the problem, NOT the unemployed! a guy having his money stopped for 6 months due to it being deemed that he hadn't done enough to look for work! << OMG what was he ment to live on for the next 6 months?! This is where A LOT of my rent arrears come from over a period of 4/5 years when i was 18 - 21 and semi often forgot to sign on (I had/have a very poor memory) or lost my benefit for whatever reason and in turn was evicted from my home ws i ws 21 and LOT EVERYTHING! as all my belongings were just shuved into storage! I still can't believe the 50p gas and electric meters were replaced with the con key and card! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't have to work but i want to. but need to find someone who can build websites. as i want my own videochat room on my own website, as i want to work from home. I've wanted my own website since about 2007! I don't just want A wesbite, i want a video chatroom where i can make money talking to people from all walks of life about their problems or whatever they want to talk about etc. I'd LOVE to know a secret millionaire who knew how to build websites as i'd pay him/her to build mine. i have all the website specs written out at the ready. But no idea how to actualy build a website especially a video chat room website. I really can't wait to get started but have no one to help and i bet if you approched my local job centre, they'd try to send me on a web design course! which i do NOT want. I want to pay someone to build it for me. More to the point, if i approached my local job centre and told them about my wanting to work from home on my own website, whats the betting, they'd say... JC's: "We dont have any help for that" << they are meant to be there for help people who WANT to WORK! Apologies to post so much but i want my voice heard so to speak and am eager to find someone who knows how to build websites that would be able to help me in my situation.

It is horrible to watch someone go through a hardship, but exactly what are property owners and banks supposed to do when a tenant doesn't make rent though??? They can't just allow someone to continue to live in a place where they do not pay their rent, a bank can't allow someone to get further and further behind in payments and no one can just lower your rent on a property just because groceries are more expensive, pregnancy or you do not make enough money to make ends meet.

If one job isn’t enough you either downsize or you get a second job. It sucks but it’s what you have to do. If people spent as much time worth make money as fighting eviction they would have the money. The fact she lived in the house and stuck her head in the sand while her husband didn’t pay the bills is her fault. You can work full time and raise a family. People do it all the time. Is it easy? No. Get a smaller house and get a weekend job. Do what you have to. But quit with the excuses. I work a full time job and take care of two ailing elderly parents full time, cancer, in their home, during Covid, their finances, their medical, my home, my finances, work 60 hours a week. I never complained. I did what I had to do.

Not everyone’s situation is the same. My son is disabled with learning difficulties, I’d never be able to work 60 hours and attend to him , who’d even be able to look after him? Costs way more to pay someone to look after disabled children

The takeaway I got from this is that Ireland needs better child support and alimony laws. Hopefully that has changed. Also, it is pointless to make partial payments. The bank is not operating off of emotions nor do they care that you are trying. It is best to save that money for an apartment.

Do they not have enforced child support, alimony or spousal support in Ireland? Can one spouse really just leave and that's it? Yikes.

Do they have subsidized housing for elderly and disabled people in Ireland? In the U.S. they have public housing authorities where people can apply for subsidized housing which is 30% to 40% of their income. If elderly or disabled they first deduct their health costs and insurance cost before tallying the reduced rent. Because it’s a federal program, the properties must be maintained and are inspected once a year to ensure they are maintained properly.

There is an element of laziness in those who could go and find work but choose to stay at home and spawn more children, exacerbating their debt. They need to get off their lazy butts and get a job, I have no sympathy for the lazy and plenty of sympathy for those who try to help their situation but are struggling. It is irresponsible to have more children than you can afford to support!
