👀👍! well theyre now on sale for about 56 cents per switch on cannonkeys, making them a bit easier on the wallet. however, i got a single luciola switch to try and felt as if it had a gummy, muted bottom out, maybe due to some factory lube at the bottom of the stem rail or pole. it also sounded not as full sounding as i would have expected for an ink housing.
@JadedJawnee

:( Really sorry to hear about that experience, mate. I'm unsurprised that a Gateron switch (especially an older one) might fare best with hand-lubing. Having it worse from the factory, though, is not good.

so I'm just curious, you have a lot of sound tests for different configurations of the same boards like this hiro and the gok venn, do you use hotswap pcbs or do you desolder every time? if you do use hotswap, do you think there is a noticeable difference in sound compared to soldered pcbs?
@JadedJawnee
@JadedJawnee 27 күн бұрын
Hi! I have used the same hot-swap PCB since my first sound test with the Hiro. I'm surprised it has lasted this many swaps, but I have sometimes had to use tweezers to push the inside pins tighter. Luckily, no catastrophic failures are a testament to the durability of hot-swap PCBs (when made well and treated with care). In terms of sound, I do not notice a considerable difference personally, but you could make an argument for feeling. There is something about solder PCBs and how they have a very "solid" feeling because the switches are locked in place with the solder. Newer hot-swap sockets are much tighter, and some can work plateless because of that (emulating the solder solidity). I hope this helps!

These sound a lot more pleasant to my ears. If I had to pick between the two, I would go for the Jing switches! Both switches without foam could be better. I'd recommend pairing them with something like POM or FR4 to rein in their sound.

I went in on this as well, gotta commend artemis for their monthly updates, but KFA grossly mishandled everything (communication, shipping times, etc.). Sounds like tons of folks have had issues with missing items in their packages, such a bummer for folks after waiting way longer than expected! All that said, I love the board, and don’t regret the purchase! I think the PC version and copper weight help to dampen some of the higher end frequencies on cherry switches (like these Nixies) in a really satisfying way.
@JadedJawnee
@JadedJawnee Ай бұрын
I did not hear about KFA mishandling January's extra parts, but I'm not surprised. I believe people had similar issues with their Zoom! How they continuously get away with it and continue to bring new GB partners absolutely bewilders me, but it is what it is. I totally agree, though. Copper weight with PC boards is the move. As long as the weight is relatively heavy, they sound good!

@@JadedJawneeyeah, it was definitely a different time two years ago, but it seems like KFA is way overcommitted based on their apparent staff size, and it really doesn’t make sense to me that they’re continuing to offer more GBs when they’re struggling with the fulfillment of their outstanding GBs. Hope they get these issues resolved for existing (and new) customers before it further degrades the experience for folks in this hobby!

@JadedJawnee

@jalexanderc nailed the response. There is most certainly a sound difference. The Nixies are slightly smoother than Hyperglides but on the same level as MX2A. However, the big part is the "milky" top makes the top-out more muted. It's good to have both on hand. Sometimes, standard MX Blacks can sound too sharp and that's when Nixies will shine. If MX Blacks sound good already (not sharp), then there's no need for Nixies. I hope this helps!
