Are microbraids the same as microloc braids??
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay Күн бұрын
They can be. Only separations in my mind are micro braids are usually a style that comes out and synthetic hair is used. Microlocs are just braids that are left in to turn into locs.

Hi, new sub here. Thank you for your content. I was wondering if you have a video of how often after initial establishment what type of retie & how often it’s needed.
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay Күн бұрын
Hi and thanks for subscribing. I have multiple videos referencing those things. For me and the rate that my hair grew at, I was doing reties every 6 weeks for the first year and a half probably and then moved to 7 then 8-9 weeks now that I am 3 years in. And I do the 4 point rotation.

And this is interlocking?? Why is this better, safer, healthier as an option for locs? (I have zero knowledge about micro locs 🤣)
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay Күн бұрын
Yes it is interlocking and I can’t say that it’s better, safer or healthier. I think any method of maintenance can be damaging if done too tightly or too often. But interlocking works best for me and my lifestyle because I wash my hair weekly and also like to exercise and swim. I don’t have to worry about my hair unraveling or getting frizzy at the roots.

I wouldn't really trust the title of this video. I used the method to wash my 2-week old starter locs and had a LOT of them unravel. If I could go back 3 hours and tell myself not to wash them I wouldn't do it again. Well made video, but this is absolutely not a 1-size-fits-all method and my experience was that it caused a large amount of unraveling
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay 10 күн бұрын
That’s a fair opinion to have. Nothing is one size fits all but this is the method I have always used with my starter locs and it’s always worked. I leave my cap on while my hair is drying because if I took it off while wet I would experience unraveling. It also depends on the length of your hair. If your hair is extremely short or if you go in washing vigorously then you have a much better chance you’ll have unraveling.

I was always told still not to wash for a while after crochet locs
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay 15 күн бұрын
Mainly because locticians want the locs to start settling and locing before you go in and washing so you don’t risk slippage or them loosening up. But if they are done well they should be able to be washed same day with no issues.

The swim caps from You Go Natural are great! Very stylish and work! My nape / kitchen does get damp but that is it. if I braid my locs and pile them on top of my head, the do indeed stay dry as you say. Sometimes, I wet my locs before swimming and putting on the cap to minimize the absorption of the chlorine in the even of water seeping under the cap.

I did mine in the natural state but either way will work. Just know if you stretch it out, it will still shrink when you wash it or it gets wet.
