I was under the impression that unless they are matted, you shouldn't cut the 'feathers' of a Bernese dogs paws
@SitStaywithStacySlade20 сағат бұрын
The feathers are on the back of the legs and the pants are on the back of the rear legs. These areas should not be cut. The the hair on the underside of the paws should be kept trimmed.
@jahsalsera2 күн бұрын
thank you for this advise , but how hold you the foot at the back?
@SitStaywithStacySlade20 сағат бұрын
I usually leave the foot on the table and trim from there. Or lift it straight up if the dog is cooperative.

Unfortunately my 94# girl jumped out of our booster bath a few months ago and had a very tramatic experience as she was tethered to the front and we weren't able to release her. She actually broke both front legs off the bath in her attempt to escape. Do you think that we will ever be able to get her back into the booster (once we replace the two front legs)? Heer last 2 baths have been back in the tub in the house. She avoided even walking near the booster which was lying in the walkway next to the house. I am devastated that we may have "ruined her" to the bath which she used to love.

Thank you Stacy. I'll use your lesson as a training framework to introduce Pablo to drafting. Years back; Darwin and I cleaned trash in front of our property. We walked to the mailbox, gathered leaves, and generally enjoyed every moment we worked together. I'd like to build that bond with Pablo.

Whats your technique on no jumping up on you? They don't seem to have that one nailed down yet or is it because you're letting them play?
@SitStaywithStacySlade14 күн бұрын
Well, Frenzy is my only puppy who still tries to "get my attention" with jumping up on me." I correct her by telling her no, redirecting her and asking her to do something else for me. But the others all know know not to jump on me unless we are playing.

Stacy. The link for the slip leashes didn’t work. Do you have an alternative suggestion. We’re using a slip leash now is there a difference. Thanks again.

I have a 9 week old coming Tuesday and have been watching your videos. Cant tell you how helpful they have been to watch. I bought a leash,collar and harness. When should I start to use them? If you get time and let me know your opinion I would really appreciate it. Thanks
@SitStaywithStacySladeАй бұрын
Happy to help! I hope your breeder will be a great resource for you and support you and your puppy for the life of the dog! I wouldn't use the harness. A limited slip collar is perfect, harnesses are uncomfortable on puppies and encourage pulling.

Hi Stacy - can you make a video on how to react when they are eating something they are not supposed to? When we are outside to potty train - she's always putting branches and grass in her mouth and gets aggressive when we take it out of her mouth. She does know "leave it" but wants to keep chewing items. I think she is trying to exercise independence??
@SitStaywithStacySladeАй бұрын
Sure! I will work on this video. I have found that rewarding them for coming and ALWAYS having yummy treats on me to trade for the contraband item is most successful and promotes the good trusting relationship with my dogs.

I heard you give cheese treats. But what were you giving your boy on the table. You haven’t posted in a bit. I just literally just found you. And by far and away your videos are very helpful to a 3.5 year old puppy. Do you have a dental video
@SitStaywithStacySladeАй бұрын
I use string cheese and USA made jerky treats or many other training treats. Basically anything my dogs love! I haven't done a dental video, I give my dogs bones often to chew and keep their teeth clean.

Hi Stacy - I have 2 month old - almost 3 month BMD puppy - do you recommend any joint or immune supplements to put into their food. I'm currently using NuVet on recommendation from the breeder. Also - when would you recommend adding fish oil to their food?
@SitStaywithStacySladeАй бұрын
NuVet is useless. Your breeder is making money off your purchases. I would recommend GlycoFlex Classic for green lipped muscle, I start fish oil at 4 months along with Vitamin C.

As a new owner of a 6mo berner this video was so validating in the training I’m doing with her and her level of nervousness around new objects and places! Taking the time and letting the dog lead can be frustrating at times but 2 steps forward and one step back is still forward movement. This is exactly how I’ve been trying to build her confidence and another dog present has done wonders!

Processed foods can eventually cause indirect problems including the preservatives in them. Consider adding BARF raw balanced food rolls into their diet - it can be frozen which is handy. Too many jabs can cause side effects. My dog's 2nd jab resulted in a seizure. My breeder had said only give 1 not 3 but I had not educated myself sufficiently to trust this advice.

Hi, Thank you for all the great recommendations, my five month old has done amazing on the memes ames collar. He walks right beside me, no pulling. My problem is the other day he ran backwards, after seeing a dog and going to play, this caused his collar ;’(which is the correct size) to come right off. Needless to say, thank god I had treats, and that he is a really good boy but I think my heart stopped. Can you recommend a collar for park walks, where some play is allowed as well as a forever collar. Thanks. 🐾
@SitStaywithStacySlade5 ай бұрын
You likely need to tighten the collar. It should be very snug and right up around the ears and under the jaw. Fitted correctly I have never had a dog back out of a limited slip collar.
@SitStaywithStacySlade4 ай бұрын
If it is a limited slip Mes Ami’s collar I would tighten it so when the small area it “slips” or corrects would not allow a dog to get out of it.
