sounds very much like Richard Strauss, a good imitation, indeed

I liked the clip directed by Jane Glover better (the one used in the BBC documentary about Alma): perhaps this is just a poor recording. I though the original temp (coming out of the Adagio intro) was a bit fast.

One of the most beautiful overture ever written ! Really happy to discover this performance ! Perhaps, a little bit too fast...If you are interested in young composer of nowadays, please listen to the first symphony by Rodrigo Landa Romero. I would like it to be played one day by a real orchestra like yours.

It sounds really a good combination, shame that the film is at a distance. Certainly would like to hear group again . Many thanks..

Alma and Amira Willighagen sang this at a concert already in 2015, at least I could understand what they two sang. These two sopranos both are almost incomprehensible, a pitty since the the story telling is the most important.

I agree that the recording wasn't that great but they do it all very well in this performance

@@raymondkocken4483 It´s not the recording fault, it´s just two mediocre opera rhinos who can´t sing well but rather barks what they are told to bark.

I happened to be there and shook Alma Deutscher's hand asking to have a conversation with her.She kindly agreed but because of a misunderstanding it couldn't work...

Such a funny aria and a perfect interpretation. Of course, under these circumstances, without the funny acting part, because that wouldn’t fit.

Shout, shout, up with your song! Cry with the winds, for the dawn is breaking; March, march, swing you along, Wide blows our banner and hope is waking. Song with its story, dreams with their glory, Lo! they call, and glad is their word! Forward! hark how it swells, Thunder of freedom, the voice of the Lord! Long, long, we in the past Cowered in dread from the light of heaven, Strong, strong, stand we at last, Fearless in faith and with sight new-given. Strength with its beauty, Life with its duty, (Hear the voice, oh hear and obey!) These, these, beckon us on, Open your eyes to the blaze of day. Comrades, ye who have dared First in the battle to strive and sorrow, Scorned, spurned, nought have ye cared, Raising your eyes to a wider morrow. Ways that are weary, days that are dreary Toil and pain by faith ye have borne; Hail, hail, victors ye stand, Wearing the wreath that the brave have worn! Life, strife, these two are one, Naught can ye win but by faith and daring; On, on, that ye have done But for the work of today preparing. Firm in reliance, laugh a defiance, (Laugh in hope, for sure is the end.) March, march, many as one, Shoulder to shoulder and friend to friend.

All women in ALL symphony orchestras need to wear something with SLEEVES. I don't care how 'young' are toned your arms are, sleeves please. This just does NOT look professional. Or professional enough....

Adopting a modest dress code even for girls in an orchestra is more professional looking, no pajamas in concerts, thank you. @@jemiller226
