Yes, you did suggest it some months ago 😊. Glad you like it and it was certainly a lot more complex than I’d realised moving from a single OHC to a DOHC (as you can see from the videos). But thanks to the small springs, it works a treat A proper video is due to drop tomorrow with the single OHV engine I made quite a while ago I got the springs for the Harley Davidson Engine I was working on which can now resume soon. It had a similar orientation as a DOHC engine, even though it uses pushrods like the other engine shown in tomorrow's video 😊

@@Danio_72I may make some instructions. At present I'm making instructions for my 8 speed gearbox, so hopefully when I finish that, I may have some time to make some for this Thankfully, the design is quite simple, the hard part was making it simple 😂 The springs if you're interested are 03x6x10mm and found on eBay for about £3 for 10 It would've been better with 11mm in length, but I couldn't find any that size What has been surprising is how free the engine turns. It is as if the springs are not there

@@Danio_72 as for detailing it. Haven't any plans as yet as it could be any engine. I'm thinking of mounting it transversely in a studless version of the legendary 8865 which im hoping complete late 2024 early 2025 and keeping the 4 cylinder theme alive compared to just adding another simple v formation engine

Which side are you using as the intake and exhaust valve from the perspective of the video? If the right one is the exhaust you need to have it open 1 or 2 teeth later. Or your gear ration of crank to valve is off. What are you running?
@Legotyres
@Legotyres 22 күн бұрын
This one’s been dismantled now.L and the new one has a bigger problems as the valve holder rocks. I’ve another design idea for this side, but it’ll be a few days before I put it into practice 😊 Then I’ll start looking at the timing and locked in
@D8Dozer
@D8Dozer 22 күн бұрын
@@Legotyres just remember that the valves should rotate twice as fast as the crank so a 2 to 1 gear ratio and then you'll have it.
@Legotyres
@Legotyres 21 күн бұрын
@@D8Dozerit’s the other way round as illustrated in the video. 2 full rotations of the crankshaft to a single full rotation to the camshaft. This enables the engine to run through its 4 stroke cycle of “inlet, compression, power, exhaust” with the valves only opening on inlet and exhaust strokes 😊 @Legotyres

@@D8Dozer ha, that was a joke. As these are prototypes, they’re close enough especially as there are only a handful of twin cam Lego engines which have ever built in the world and shown on KZfaq. Especially this small 😊
@pyroshock7333

Honestly if a larger gear was used to spin the piston cam or whatever you call it, the valve timing would match the strokes better
@Legotyres
@Legotyres 25 күн бұрын
aye, you’re right, but Lego isn’t that accurate anyway as the amount of play is quite massive. Yes you can tighten it by adding a tensioners, then you add more friction plus that even alters the timing to and that then makes it difficult to use with manual products plus the timing issues return It’s a trade off for something which kind of looks quite cool, enjoyable to experiment with and at its heart follows the basic principles of a real engine 😊 You’re more than welcome to give it a go tho as I’d love to see what you can come up with at this size. Most fail to get this close unless they use modified parts which is not the case here, nothing has been destroyed in its design and the only none genuine parts are the springs which fit just like Legos own springs with out harm

Hahaha, I know, I think I’ve gone a little bonkers 🤪 I’ll blame that on Lego’s 42110 Landrover Defender. It has an 8 speed gearbox, so I built one and stuck it in it. You can see it in a couple of the videos Was never happy with it 🤷‍♂️ Fast forward a few years and I’ve created a much better design where none of the gears speeds overlap plus its maximum output is 3:1. It’ll make it the perfect 8 speed gearbox to work with a hi/low transfer box plus it shouldn’t add any more stress than LEGOs original 😂 Told you I was gears mad but 🤫, don’t tell anyone 🤣

Computers, they rules us don’t they 😳 (hope you get it fixed soon The standard 8 speed gearbox is really tiny and no larger than the 8 speed I squeezed into Landy. It’s the stepper system which is massive 🤪 I’m looking to create a single stepper system for the powered up program I’ve created which will then hopefully fit into an RC I’ve got planned I think I’ve already posted a crude version of the stepper on a very early MOC plus if you check back, the Landy gearbox which incorporates the stepper is also in my video feed That was my very first attempt at making an 8 speed before I switched back to my FWD when I found I could flip one of the gears for a reverse 😂
