Minor Threat and Black Flag were the last real punk bands. Rise against can only wish to be "Punk".

Fun Fact: Davis reached way back to the '40s and '50s when pianists used to sing without words like "shee bop dee boop, deebity dee" and turned into an angry vocalist style. It's called "skatting"; needless to say, he mastered it in the new age.

The lyrics are a tiny bit off for the backing vocals in the breakdown section: "strong heart, clear mind [not "too high"], and infinitely kind"

I don’t know if this has already been said. I Confused, t was laid out in the first two lines: father, can you hear me? How have I let you down? The meaning is, he’s blaming his father for putting the weight of the world on him. And somewhat asking for guidance.

About the "Hey moral soldier" line, I've always read it as the moral soldier being somebody forcing their views on others using what they see as "righteous" reasons, using their holy book ("precious tomes") to justify keeping or taking information away from people (pulpy conflagrations being books made out of paper pulp burning)

There's quite a bit more to music pre-metal other than love songs and protest songs. Fyi the backup vocals are JD as well. Interesting note about his microphone stand. The artist HR Giger designed it for Jonathan and he has two of them. HR Giger was also the artist behind the "Alien" designs.

Mika's on-the-fly analysis of the lyrics are so much to watch! I just found the channel, and I'm binging through these Bad Religion reactions (onto Rise Against next!). PLEASE have her listen to Epiphany, from The Process of Belief. I got into Bad Religion with American Jesus, but the lyrics in Epiphany are what sold me on the band for life. I remember being thirteen and checking in online dictionaries for every other word. It felt great to have finally found music with something to say. Still my favorite band 15+ years later!

Moral soldier isn't a literal soldier. He's talking about people who feel it is their duty to uphold righteousness, doing so by proclaiming their acts to be proper, backed up with book burnings of immoral material. Funny how every listener seems to interpret the lyrics differently

Korn and Jonathan is a voice for us that suffered trauma as children. To not feel alone, and music to empower the tragic soul. Thank you Korn and thank you JD!

If your first draft of a song is anywhere near a finished Propagandhi song, i would very much like to hear one of them 😂 Propagandhi are incredible, they write some of the most considered and thoughtful songs I've ever heard and I've learned more about the world listening to them than i ever did at school

Hero of War... If that doesn't bring Mika to tears, I don't know what will. This one hits me HARD every time. As a USAF veteran, I never experienced the true horrors of war, but I personally know MANY vets who have had their lives forever changed, if not ruined, by it. Plus, it's a total departure from what she knows of Rise Against.

@BillGardiner - Yeah it was a lot easier to like these bands when their gross misdeeds weren't public knowledge. Not saying it's right but ignorance really is bliss. Turns out half the bands out there are creepy pedos, rapists, racists or greedy thieves.

Okay, so we need to start having 2 categories. This isn't a reaction channel. This is a channel where people like to stop it a lot and explain their own knowledge about music. It's the type of channels that I avoid because I really don't care how smart people are.I want to see their reaction to a song that I already know

Love this reaction and definitely subscribed! I'm going to check out your reaction to one of all-time favorite Rise Against songs, State of the Union too. Consider reacting to KoRn's "Somebody Someone" next. There's a band called He Is Legend that i think would be great for both of you to hear if you've never heard them. Their newer stuff like "White Bat," "The Prowler," and "Burn all Your Rock Records" are faster songs that are worth a listen, but their whole catalog is great, you should give them a try.

Propagandhi has hundreds of songs, none of them have a chorus.Your criticisms of the band are understandable because they are difficult to sink into and sometimes complex music takes more than one listen to love. My favourite band, and Glenn Lambert is a great singer. Chris Hannah not so much.
