I completely understand work throwing your plans out of place. A job I've worked would often have people constantly calling out and quitting without notice and I constantly was the one to be called to fill in. Things got better when I transferred from that branch to another, though I'm still regularly the one called upon when someone who does something I can do doesn't show up. It's good for extra pay, yet tiring all the same.
