I can’t imagine a better time and place to grow up than in Truckee. My dad was the Park supervisor in the ‘80’s. I have great memories of spending summers going to work with dad and “helping” with whatever projects were going on. I seem to recall the amphitheater being built during his stint. Graduated high school in ‘87. It’s crazy to see all the development around Donner Lake, kinda sad really. Take care of my hometown people.

@@gemmegroup sure was. I lived in Tahoe Donner and could get anywhere around Tahoe by trails or dirt roads on my ‘79 Yamaha IT175 and hit the pits up every now and then. I had a buddy who I rode with a lot who lived on the summit so ended up riding trails up there a lot. Then 151/2 came and my dad had bought me ‘81 Yamaha Seca 550 a few months before outta nowhere but on one of our weekend routines but nit to our usual Reno destination but this time we had ridden on his gs1150 and we’d usually go to the mall or gun shops and motorcycle shops, we’ll I ended up following him home on my brand new (used) bike. So ended up selling the 175 and started carving up the roads. As a kid I did appreciate growing up there and all the things to do. And never thought I was spoiled although looking back it’s hard not to think that, but we were middle class I imagine and really couldn’t complain about anything. The world seems like such a different place now and seems like times like that are gone. And if I understand correctly Donner Lake is almost all private?! I was a cashier at 15 at Westend Beach Donner lake then lifeguarded from 16-17 and I’m pretty sure you could go virtually anywhere on or around the lake back then save a small area with a boat launch at the east end where the Tahoe Donner property owners had an area. Anyways good times.

@@adamanderson8843 I had a plated '92 Honda XR250L when I use to live in Truckee. I would like every trail I could, single track, pits, and fireroads. I would ride to Reno via Dog Valley road ohv systems, up to Verdi peak, TD, and occasionally through the old donner trail tunnels. Donner Lake has certainly changed, most of it is private. Love hearing the stories from how it was back then.

Absolutely disgusting. My parents built their house on Tahoe in 1947. Right on the lake, bordering the Sugar Pine State Park. Every year we saw it change from what was a sleepy Mountain resort, and a bunch of hippies, kind of bouncing around to becoming more and more of a playground for the ultra rich. That’s all it is now is a playground for the ultra rich. All of the locals have been pushed out in favor of expensive cars, tearing down, classic Tahoe properties to build super luxury homes and fancy restaurants and shopping. It’s truly saddening.
@gemmegroup
@gemmegroup Жыл бұрын
It is true that lake Tahoe is a playground for the rich, and always has been since the inception of the railway coming through our area. In the late 1800's and early 1900's Tahoe was virtually clear cut by big business to build the railways, feed he papermills and create the infrastructure of the world that we live in today. Most of those natural resources went to San Francisco, Reno and Sacramento. The truth of our area is that Tahoe is the 3rd most visited natural wonder of the world. People from all over the world come to visit every year. Tripling our population with tourism when they come to enjoy every day. It is one of the most accessible natural resources in all of America. Our local businesses feed off of the revenue generated by tourism, our infrastructure is strained as a result every year. But the truth in what keeps property values where they are, is the cost of materials, the modern day building codes increasing the engineering costs, the cost of labor and the environmental policies preserving our lake quality for all of those people to preserve. Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your perspective.

The problem is it’s California.. You can’t trust the State Government or Extreme Environmentalist to hold taxes and regulations steady. I lived in Tahoe for over 30 years. California North and South.. State is tanking and they will come after the wealthy. I fear they see a lot of fat cats living in Tahoe.. You may be targeted in the future for more Taxes and more restrictions on your property. Get a copy of someone’s property taxes. Dozens of amendments getting around state taxes. I LOVE Lake Tahoe. I FEAR California Government.

Unfortunately, Truckee is being ruined by the big money creeps who are buying up the land and building Mcmansions. We already see what has happened to Mill Valley and Healdsburg - similar destruction of once nice towns. Meanwhile, these influx of tech money is making it unlivable for the natives and family people who have been there for decades. This crummy video is a perfect example of what has happened to the Sierras - some buffed up realtor mumbling through this poor conceived video. The "Aspenization" of the Sierras. Pathetic!
