when I was younger, I used to have nightmares where I was lost in a big city and would have to find a pay phone to call my parents. I would hate to be lost in the city and have my phone be dead, since now I wouldnt be able to call anyone since these are nearly all out of service (fun fact: some of these still work, and have service, but dont have the handset so are useless)
@kelza016 күн бұрын
Looks convenient, too bad most payphones dont exist anymore

In Australia telstra converted all of theirs to free phones and they still work 🔥

Crazy that there's still some in operation because the area is so poor people still use landlines and payphones then there's the amish areas that still have them but even that's rare the younger ones have cell phones most of the time and older have phone houses at the end of their driveways with landlines or sometimes cell phones because it's cheaper
@mookitty239616 күн бұрын
No nobody is using landlines unless they’re private sectors who can’t risk people wirelessly tapping like military bases. Cell phone towers are cheaper to install and maintain and offer a far better range of accessibility than landland. If your house wasn’t wired for phones or your neighbor or city. A cell phone tower is a better alternative
@bforster223715 күн бұрын
@@mookitty2396 ok for new construction thats true but for poor and rural areas the phone lines are already in place.
@mookitty239615 күн бұрын
@@bforster2237 absolutely not. Have you ever been to a rural town far from larger cities? People get cell phone reception. It’s not the best but it’s there now. This isn’t the 1950s
@bforster223714 күн бұрын
@@mookitty2396 yes and I've seen them they are mostly in the norteast a simple search online would give you this information but you just want to argue about what you've seen and can't fathom anything outside your experience. Granted there are only a few hundred left in the United States, they still do exist and are functional. Most being either in airports, public service buildings, or rural areas and mostly in the northeastern, north, and along the west coast with few scattered through the Midwest and Central United States very few in the nortwest and southeast other than Florida. Other than that they are in police stations, jails, and prisons.
@mookitty239614 күн бұрын
@@bforster2237 I’m arguing it because my very job is actually installing cell phone towers. It’s cheaper and easier to installed a cell phone tower than it is to wire up houses for telecommunications. Believe me, the towns that don’t have cell phone receptions are very very few.
