I like this bold method as opposed to traditional cutting one twig at a time, which is considered by some people to be the only correct way. Many years ago Walter Paul wrote about it, a hedge pruning method

Please tell us about the soil mixture. How often do you water and feed. Is this tree full sun or under a cover? I failed with my 1st olive. Some instructions would be helpful. Happy Fourth

As I get older, I'm faced with my ultimate fate as we all do. Happiness is often a challenge to balance what we want with what we need to do. Bonsai is difficult for me because it's such an endeavor to time. I hope my bonsai live in the hands of my people who will curate them in my name. To hear your voice and watch your videos and see how much vigor you have, I hope I can find your happiness and positivity for myself in my older years.

I don't know where to start... Toronto here. I find your style matches my thoughts and personality. I'm starting a cherry blossom tree that was cut short and has beauty.. I've cut it shorter in hopes of thickening the trunk. .. I can't bend its upright trunk but I have wire to shape the branches and I'm growing it in the open ground. .. it's going to be a challenge. Love you sharing your knowledge. I want to get a black pine. I have a small mugo.. also upright trunk.. I'll likely end up with boring bonsai trunks but I mostly like and want a really fat trunk at the base.

Love all your videos but I wish they should be recorded with better resolution.

I think I heard in previous videos that he records in good quality but he intentionally lowers the resolution so it doesn't take forever to upload to KZfaq, so lower resolution means less upload time.

Very interesting. You have the right material and rock/stone to start with for root-over-rock.

What a beautiful tree. Agree with front and future design ideas. Curious what the soil composition is you used to repot. (?)

I've just come upon this hoby not realising that you need a big collection of stuff before you can actually start a project..... cause everything I need, I haven't got.

Everyone is enjoying your fantastic illustrations. Can you describe how you make these? It looks you you sketch with pencil to measured proportions, then ink, and last colored pencil. Would love to see a video of your bonsai art, if you have lots more.

A beautifully styled Trident Maple. The pot suits it well. Curious what your soil mix/blend is that you used to repot the tree. Not the top dressing, the soil itself planted in. I “really” like this tree. Would love to have it in our little collection. 😊

Thank you Hiro for explaining this, I’m a new learner of the bonsai. I have 1 juniper, approximately 5 years old in a small pot, I also plan on digging out a small olive tree that I have in the backyard and place it in a small pot it already has a nice curved trunk so I look forward to working on that. Thanks again for your content!
