@@DomFraietta you need a diagnostic scanner that can show the individual sensor information in real time. It’s the only way to know what is happening, most scan tools can’t do this. It may require a trip to the dealership.

IIRC in the 70's VW's were supposed to have an oil change every 3000 miles or one year (which ever came first) and a major service at 6000 miles or one year (which ever came first). Compare that to today!

Nine digit VW part numbers are an example of German ingenuity. In the case of this relay, 133 refers to the model number. A Beetle is a Type 1, so the number starts with a 1. If it were a Type 2 Transporter it woud start with a 2, part number 211 xxx xxx for example. Type 3's would be 311 and Type 4's 411. The three digits increase to illustrate the exact model. The second group, the 919 is a nine because all electrical parts are 9's. Body parts start with an 8. The 431 identifies the part specifically, the relay was a late addition to the model so it's no surprise that it's quite a high number. Sometimes there will be letters after the part number, like an A for example. If the design of 133 919 431 was improved so that it was less likely to fail then the number might be 133 919 431 A. I've seen VW part numbers ending with letter like E or G or more where the part has been refined several times. VW parts for one type were used on different types. Type 4 dashbord instrument clusters were fitted to late Karmann Ghia's so you'd find a 411 part on a Type 1 Karmann Ghia. Parts for Beetles were the most commonly used parts on the other types. This relay for instance would have been fitted to all the other types to operate their fasten seatbelt signs.
