the neck spindle has too much clearance in the frame bore. I have a friend making me a new spindle and pilot. The bore in the spindle for the pilot isn't center either. I feel it's best to have this unit as tight as possible to eliminate errors and not blame sizing and bullet seating.

I've been reloading since I was 16 yrs old and turned 69 in July! I feel that I have certainly gotten my monies worth and have reloaded much more accurate ammo than I could have ever bought while having a Great Time Reloading!
@ctu7070
@ctu7070 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, but with the current market I'm not sure how reloading compares to just buying ammo when you can find it. I haven't been keeping up with the trends for a couple years now. When I made the video the market had closed up considerably after the Obummer years. Now with the Bumbling Idiot in office and our economy completely out of control in what appears to be an unrecoverable flat spin I would be curious as to what savings there would be if any at all. But can you put a price on accuracy and self-satisfaction of loading your own ammo unless you are wanting to stockpile ammo quickly? I've gotten so busy with other projects and keeping up with saving myself money anyway I can that I have gotten away from loading long enough that I need to do a whole new cartridge workup for our 2 long range rifles so I can get what we have loaded. As for my handgun and semi-auto caliber rounds those never change and all my powder adjusters are all permanently set for those as any good loader has a powder adjustment insert for each caliber they load and for those precision long range guns of the same caliber you should have 1 for each gun since the odds of them shooting the same grains is extremely low.

Do you have to use hornady shell holders?
@ctu7070
@ctu7070 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on your question, but I obviously have the Hornady shell holders. However, I do have a few Lee shell holders that I received in a purchase of reloading equipment from a friend, but haven't needed to use them. I got them out today and tried them, they do fit, but the hole in the center is the same size on the bottom but tapers down to a smaller sized hole. This causes them to not allow the pin to travel through the hole to lock the case into the shell holder. I don't see why you couldn't make the hole bigger to allow the shell holder to slide over the pin so it will lock the case in the holder.

Just a March 2021 update on this product for y’all, the price had dropped down to around $60 sometime when you made this video and has since gone back up to $100 at the local and online Lowe’s, suggesting that maybe they are sticking with this product through 2021 afterall. Whatever it’s worth, there it is. Not really sure why they dropped the price, hinting to a discontinuation or new product to replace it with, but whatever the reason they now in early 2021 are pushing the price back up to the original MSRP suggesting it isn’t going anywhere.

I have the AB3 Hunter in 6.5. Do you know if there is a metal trigger and trigger guard replacement? By the way. I put a Beartooth cheek riser are mine too. Thanks for the video.
@ctu7070
@ctu7070 3 жыл бұрын
I am unaware of any aftermarket triggers or trigger guards for the AB3. Your question actually got me curious, so I did a minor Google search and was unable to come up with any hits other than a spring replacement. I mean Timney makes a trigger replacement for the X-Bolt but not the A-Bolt. I'm kind of surprised that there isn't any options for a trigger replacement on this rifle as it has been out for several years starting with the A-Bolt, the A-Bolt II, and now the AB3. I guess other than these 2 parts being plastic the trigger is one of the best I've ever had on a rifle with its almost lack of creep and very crisp break. For this reason that the trigger is so good, maybe other trigger manufacturers figured they didn't want to make a metal version that could so easily be worse than what came stock.
@archstanton9703
@archstanton9703 3 жыл бұрын
@@ctu7070 I could only found a spring by Mcarbo and that was it. I really don't like the plastic but I guess if it works, why worry about it. I don't reload and have tried Hornady American WT and EDLX, and the AB3 seems to be more accurate with the WT than the EDLX. Have you tried the Accubonds? Randy Wakeman's video on the 270 showed great accuracy with the Accubonds. I don't reload, so will have to buy factory ammo. Thanks for the reply! Have a good one!

How hard is it to change the bolt handle on the Browning AB3? Do you need a special tool?
@ctu7070
@ctu7070 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the questions. To be honest I don't have a clue how hard it is to change the bolt handle and whether you need a special tool or not. I haven't changed my bolt handle and without deciding to do so I have no clue if it is an easy procedure or not. I did try to do some research to see if I could find some aftermarket handles, so I could see if the sellers had an installation guide to get an idea how hard this change would be. Unfortunately all the aftermarket handles I was able to find the seller's websites didn't have an installation guide for me to look at. Sorry I couldn't give you a definitive answer to either of your questions at this time.

Thanks for pointing this out. I have had issues in the past with some videos being fine and others the sound cuts in and out or seems really quiet. I have been wanting to redo these videos since I now have a dedicated camera for doing my videos. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to put out any new content or redo any older videos that there are technical issues with. These last few months with work have been some serious trying times and I'm ready for things at work to go back to normal so I don't have to work what feels like around the clock.

how do you know what pilot to use?
@ctu7070
@ctu7070 3 жыл бұрын
The pilots are numbered on their faces 1, 3, 6, 7, 9, 15, 19 and correlate to common popular caliber sizes of .223, 6mm/.243, .270, 7mm, .30, .38, and 45. The one issue I have with the number is the only way to distinguish between the #6 & #9 is to compare them side by side or to measure with a caliper. I really wish they would have numbered them with a line under the 6 & 9 for easy reference. If you're needing to trim a different caliber than these you can purchase separate pilots to fit your needs. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions, I will do my best to answer them.

I would actually buy the battery combo kit for $149 which comes with the fast charger and (2) 4 amp-hour batters and then you can get the jigsaw for free. This will get you a second charger counting the one in the 5 tool XTR combo kit, plus it will save you almost $70 dollars. To get the battery combo kit at the $149 it looks like you will have to buy it by November 17th.

I have the same rifle and caliber. Woolf you share the load you came up with?
@ctu7070
@ctu7070 4 жыл бұрын
I shoot 162gr Hornady SST with 59.1gr of IMR 4831. I came up with this load by doing an optimal weight charge (OCW) work up after I did a complete barrel break-in by shooting 1 round and then running a brush through the barrel using solvent and 3-5 dry patches for the first 5 rounds and then after every 5 rounds after that I ran just 1 patch with solvent and 3-5 dry patches through the barrel until I had fired 50 rounds. I then continued to fire rounds until I reached copper equilibrium inside the barrel and was able to determine this by using my chronograph through the whole process. You will notice through this process that your velocities will level off and be pretty consistent. Now it was time to do my OCW and if you're not familiar with that process you can check it out here optimalchargeweight.embarqspace.com/ocw-instructions/4529817134 - I didn't like the idea of using the group closest to the bullseye because it didn't seem to make sense to me when that group had the largest group and the largest extreme spread, but I did notice something of my 6 groups that made more sense since I was looking for my barrel harmonics. What I noticed was there were 3 groups that were on the same plane in the same quadrant of the target that I could literally lay the groups directly on top of each other, so I chose the powder charge in the middle. This gives me wiggle room if my charges are slightly higher or lower than what I am loading for. I have since played around with headspacing (making sure they are all the same) and bullet seating depth and I have always used a bullet concentricity tool to eliminate bullet runout and I am currently shooting between .3 - .5" groups all day long. I still need to dip into neck turning to see if I can tighten those groups up some more, but only time will tell.
