I always found using aluminum foil to bulk out the sculpture somewhat frustrating, as it was so hard to keep it from shifting around like you mentioned. This method looks so much better, and more structurally sound!!
@VerdantSculpts

Yes! I do use foil still in some instances where something is really bulky but I immediately cover it with epoxy or baked clay so it doesn't shift.

I know you're crazy professional with this and you've been sculpting for a century now, but it's still amazing to see you stay so well on model with minimal measuring. The way I learned in my maquette class involved heavy use of calipers and making cutouts of the profile with cardboard and stuff. Also watching you no have to make an armature first is the most satisfying thing haha god I hate armatures so much. How did you get your start btw? I know you used to teach at college, but did you ever work making commercial stuffs?
@VerdantSculpts
@VerdantSculpts 10 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words. I HATE math and measuring, so I avoid it whenever I can haha. On larger scale pieces, I have made use of cutouts and measurements. It just depends on the project. As for where I got my start, it was all self taught in the beginning. I did a few short apprenticeships with commercial sculptors, but never got to participate in actual commercial production. I learned a lot of tricks of the trade from those times though, even though they were short.

Thank you so much! I worked really hard on getting the pink and blue just right. I original wanted the resin to have a pearlescent finish but the filler powder I used made that impossible. The metallic accents were the perfect compromise!

That marbling turned out so great! What's the benefit of having the isopropyl myristate? Is it to keep the clay from drying out from the alcohol?
@VerdantSculpts
@VerdantSculpts Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Isopropyl myristate is used to smooth Monster Clay. However, it's so strong, it can actually melt away detail on the sculpture. I cut it with isopropyl alcohol to cut back on that destructive quality. IpA alone isn't enough to smooth Monster Clay. Like you mentioned, it has a drying effect.
