13:25 idk man, I think things like raptors, dilos, and stiggys would stand a chance, sure they are *kinda* large but small enough to where they could stay hidden if they chose to live in forested areas and sustained themselves on things like deer and fish (for the carnis anyway)
@wjm960425 күн бұрын
You need a mesh laundry bag, walmart, and stick the trap inside, close draw string. Then open the door. The laundry bag works over birdhouses with the Van Ert trap also. Birdhouse should be on a pole though.

Typical "Dinosaur Gets Loose Movies" (which are most dinosaur movies) all start with the dinosaur going on a rampage and ending with it getting killed, which is what typically happens when a predator gets loose in an urban environment.
@Random-fd1ohАй бұрын
13:26 dang not even pyroraptor? they are pretty small and would basically be like the average coyote or wolf. And if they do exhibit pack behavior like other raptors in the movies, I'm pretty sure they would be pretty stable in subarctic/cold environments.

Why are letting the invasive species back into the river?
@invasivebrewsАй бұрын
They were euthanized humanly before they were put back in the river.

You get them out by filling the space with a towel or rag. 2:50

Hear me out: - Feeder with a camera - Metal perch connected to high voltage - Remote switch - Large garbage can with one way door lid underneath Watch camera, flip switch when house sparrows are on it, take out the trash. Eradicate dozens or hundreds in a day. Would the DNR arrest me lol
@hoosiercarry1149Ай бұрын
Sounds awesome! I already have the feeder with a camera. I just need to be more educated on what exactly does a house sparrow look like. How close is it to our native species.

What if they're not pets , but keep getting into my goldfish pond ? I just released a male slider that was unfortunately in there for three years . A female slider found it's way into the pond four days later , but was able to climb out . we caught her in the front yard , and I was able to take her down to the lake to release her . Did I do a bad thing for the eco-system at the Lake ?

It depends on where you are at. If you are in their native range in the south and central states you are fine.

No luck with the Van Ert traps just yet. I just keep catching Wrens. My success has been high powered air rifle ( Gamo 177 ) and a cage trap I made. I submerge the trap in a barrel of water. Takes about 15 seconds. I hate the fact I have to clean up someone else's mess....😡

I have watched house sparrows kill eastern bluebirds and take over the nest box. They use the little stick perch to stand on and kill the birds in the nest box. I learned that the only bird that needs the perch are the house sparrows. I removed the perches on my bird houses.
@invasivebrews3 ай бұрын
The only bird house I have a perch on is the one I put the Van Ert trap on because of that fact!
@madelynt1615Ай бұрын
yes, I've got a family of eastern bluebirds right now and I watched a male house sparrow struggle to enter the box, mine doesnt have a perch either. I believe he was just checking the place out, but he got chased off by the bluebirds quick lol.

I'm all for evicting invasive bird nests and eggs from bird houses but leave the live birds and babies alone. It's not their fault they are here. So, put up bird houses and remove house sparrow or starling nests and eggs when you see them nesting there. If enough bird houses are kept free of these invasive birds, native birds will have places to nest. In Connecticut this is done, and native birds (mainly the bluebird) have returned and are increasing in their numbers. It's no use killing the invasive birds as they will always be here now.

The silver and the big head are actually very good-tasting fish, and the Y bones are very easy to pick if the fish is large enough. The grass carp, on the other hand, does taste like a normal carp because they stay in the mud and towards the bottom.

There are several traps sold specifically for sparrows, the Van Ert sparrow trap goes inside birdhouses and is only $10, or several others sold online cheaply. They do not allow them to escape and will trap alot more per day. If you google the term, you can find them easily.

Do you have any advice for an electrician might accidentally get too close to a snake in a crawl space this tight? One I can't get away from.
@invasivebrews4 ай бұрын
That's actually why I was there, they had hired an electrician and he wouldn't go down there. Are you rather good at identifying your local snakes? Knowing the venomous and nonvenomous snakes is pretty important. If you don't want to do what I did here you can take a board and separate yourself from them kind of like corralling them. If not, call your local wildlife department or nuisance animal specialist.

The detection of Vespa velutina, the yellow legged hornet, around Savannah Georgia and adjacent South Carolina seems to be a pretty big one not covered. 5 nests were discovered in Georgia as of October 30th 2023, and additional sighting of the hornet on November 9th in Jasper County SC. Considering the hornet was found after the nests were eradicated in Georgia, it could indicate the eradication effort hasn't been 100% successful. It's a known rapidly spreading invasive in Europe and Hymenopterans are some of the most successful invasive species. It's naturally good at dispersal, and eliminating it once it spreads to a larger geographic area is unlikely to succeed. So a lot of effort would need to put in next year to ensure they have achieved eradication. A paper on Vespa velutina's potential habitat based on their invasion of Europe places the area in prime habitat, with potential expansion West to Texas, South to most of Florida, and North up to potentially Massachusetts. Rome, Quentin & Perrard, Adrien & F., Muller & Villemant, Claire. (2011). Monitoring and control modalities of a honeybee predator, the yellow-legged hornet Vespa velutina nigrithorax (Hymenoptera: Vespidae). Aliens: The Invasive Species Bulletin. 31. 7-15. I spend a lot of time vacationing at a Lake connected to Lake Winnipesaukee. Wasn't aware of the spiny water flea, but I will keep my eye out for them! You were close on the pronunciation, only the k sound was out of place. Like [Win - ih - puh - SOCK - ee]. You also got New Hampshire's pronunciation slightly off. New Hampshire is three syllables, [New-Hamp-sher].
@invasivebrews6 ай бұрын
I'm going to have to look into Vespa velutina. I'm planning my summer trip to an area to video and study invasives so that might be an option. Alaska, Montana (Yellowstone area) and the Great Lakes all have crossed my mind. now Georgia is an option. I'd love to be able to get video of more invasive insects but would need to travel. I need to do more research on that subject, I'm a fish guy that's what my degree is in. Sorry about my pronunciation, being a Kansas native I've been told we say things weird haha. Thank you for the information! And thank you for the time you took to type it all up!
