Early Red Box, I believe starting in 1959, and continuing for at least several years.

I think this is the first one I've come across in any scheme. All the original elastics had rotted away, but the pulleys were still present. A dollar store pack of rubber bands got it working. A little body work and an improvised figure should finish it up nicely!

Tyco Animated boxcar I got working tonight. The little white square on the roof of the yellow boxcar is supposed to be a brakeman that runs up and down the roofwalk. I don't have a brakeman yet so it's just a piece of paper. lol

You have corrected American Flyer's error! The Northern Pacific used F units, Not Alco Pa's. You AHM center cab switcher runs better than mine ever did! Many familiar buildings - Life-Like water tower and Plasticville motel! What railroad are the other streamlined diesels decorated for?

The center-cab is actually a Tyco model with an MU-2 drive from the 1960's. I'm still surprised how well it runs! The diesels are a fictional railroad I've made called Atomic Lake. One of my other videos shows them running.

I have two Revell F7s with clutch and belt drives. I haven't messed with them but the plan is to run them together to, hopefully, achieve the best clutch effect...which should be a smooth start and the ability to creep along at a very low speed. I was a little surprised that your SW7 kind of jumped forward. I've heard of these clutches needing to be adjusted but don't ask me how to do it. Anyway, there has to be an optimal train length that is heavy enough to get the clutch to engage gradually yet not too heavy so that it won't move at all. Fun little devices!

A heavy train seems to be the key. It's been a while since I worked on this engine, but I don't remember seeing much to adjust. I suppose there is only so much a small dry clutch like this can do. Definitely a fun little piece of tech!

Thanks! It's a Lionel FA1 with a rubber band drive, and matching cars. They made these units around 1960.

@@cheeztrainz I meant which number- band drive should date it to between 1959 and 1962. They switched the Alco and Geep drive to a spring belt in 1963, later on they went to a geared truck and then a truck-mounted motor. The latter was only around for 1966.

@@leverettrailfan5414 The road number is 0565. Is that what you're asking? I believe it's the 59-62 model based on diagrams I've found online. It's running a pair of rubber hair elastics for the belts, and several of the wormshaft clips had to be 3D printed as the originals were cracked.

@@cheeztrainz yes thanks that's exactly what I was curious about! Good to know about the elastics too. Very clever to 3D print the clips, yet another reason to wish I had a 3D printer! I have an 0566 I need to repair the motor of, but once I can sort that out I do want to try the hair elastics out to see how well they perform.

@@leverettrailfan5414 The printer has definitely saved my ass on several occasions! Actually, if you look closely in the video, you'll notice the couplers on this set are bright blue. The entire set started with one good coupler, which I used as a reference to reproduce the others. The resin in my printer just happened to be blue. lol Good luck with your engine!

Athearn B-units. Someone else did a lot of work on them, I found them how they are.

Bought one a few weeks ago. It’s a cool model but I’ve found mine to be extremely finicky. I’ve had to take it apart twice now to keep it running (2 times within 3 weeks). Once you get it running it runs decent but it’s just plain finicky.

Looks like either the clutch needs to be adjusted so it has less give to it or there is too much resistance in the power truck to be used with a clutch. I have never tried a clutch with one of these old Varneys. I prefer the pulley system but substituting a rubber O ring for the original coil spring belt.

jefflynnalex It was installed on the engine when I bought it. The truck rolls freely, I believe I just haven't found the right viscosity fluid. I prefer the standard gear or pulley system as well.

@DivisionMineralMty I actually have a pair of B-units somewhere...they're just too much for the 1 powered engine to handle XD I have loads more Tyco. If you look up the channel "cheezfreek57" you'll see more of my stuff :)
