Hi! I'm 68 years old and woke up this morning with the first few words of this song on my mind. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology and You Tube I was able to look up this song and play it a few times, seeing that I was never familiar with all the words. Of course I was only eight when this song came out yet so many years later it has left an impression. Truly a touching song of young love. It will be part of my summer song list for 2024. Thanks for sharing this song and especially for the lyrics. God bless.

After 10 years, I finally found what this song was called. I was searching on the Internet for "a country song about a Mexican that slices off somebody's ear." Yep, good song indeed. Also, is the song implying that the bartender was the drunk guy?

George's phrasing, the way he hangs on to notes, the emotion only George Jones can put into a song.... one of his very best.... Listen to it... Easily one of the Top Ten sad songs of GJ's entire catalog. Right up there with He Stopped Loving Her Today and When the Grass Grows over me.

I’ve always loved Tom Jones, especially his TV show … mainly because he/it saved my roommates life! We were watching TV and when that show ended, she stood up and said “guess I should get ready for my date tonite; time to shower!” … and then the Tom Jones Variety Show came on and she sat down, saying I guess it can wait a few minutes. A couple of minutes later, we heard a loud bang … a neighbor, backing out of his garage hit the gas instead of the brake and drove thru my roommates bathroom wall … the marble vanity was pushed through the shower. I keep saying, if she had been in the shower, she would have been de-waist-apated! So, thank you Tom Jones and your variety show!
