Useful tips: Control+Q to drop an entire stack Shift+left click to transfer items immediately Right clicking on items in your inventory will have you pick up half Try picking up items in your inventory, holding right click, and dragging, and same with left click Clicking the scroll wheel while looking at a block will summon it to your hand if it's in your inventory Press F to switch an item to your offhand Say for example you find a chest with a bunch of bones scattered about, if you double click when picking up one of the bones all of them will go into one stack, so you don't have to click each individually When you get a shield, you block by using right click, not crouching like in bedrock I like changing my keybinds for my hotbar in the settings, for example slot 8 and 9 are z and x for me, and since I have side buttons on my mouse, I changed the slots where I keep the most important items to those buttons (i.e. my sword is one side button and my water bucket is the other, since it can be life saving to get to them quickly) I didn't like keyboard controls at all my first time using them, but after a few weeks getting used to them I can't go back, good luck!

So this video was me playing Java edition for the first time, My main focus is still on my Bedrock Survival world, as I have some big projects planned, But, my plan for Java is to play on this public SMP that is opening in a weeks time (but videos/progress on that may be slow).

@@DiamondMC I'll be honest I use left click to place because of when I first placed minecraft, left click was used to place and also break, right click would toggle between placing and breaking.

Attacking mobs is not the same as on Bedrock, so spamming the attack button doesn't work. You need to wait till the sword-shaped bar in your aim cursor gets full, and then you can attack again. You also need to time the attack correctly to do critical damage.

hmm, interesting, but I might not like the game jumping all the time, unless their is an easy way to toggle it on and off, as I would only need auto jump when I am travelling/exploring,

Here are some tips: just put your finger tips on your mouse and not your whole hand, that way you can have better mouse mobility. Next is a windows setting, first go to your settings by searching "settings" on your task bar at the bottom of your screen. Then click on "Devices", then "Mouse", then "Additional mouse options", then "Pointer Options" and uncheck "Enhance pointer precision". Also if a thing called sticky keys come up then there should be a thing there to disable that annoying thing. And if your crouching you can go faster by running then crouching and then going forward with W & A or W & D while jumping. Also if you press F3 then you can see a ton of cool info but it's too much to explain here so watch a video on "F3 screen explained". And if you hold F3 and press Q it will tell you all of the F3 commands (not the cheating chat commands) but if your in creative you can hold F3 and press F4 to switch your gamemode quickly. But that's about all I can think of right now otherwise it's like what @catsrule3377 said, muscle memory. Hope this helped! 😊

Thank you for all of that! Will try out those 2 mouse tips you gave. And yeh, I watch Java KZfaqrs all the time and even most of them don’t understand the F3 screen, so watching a tutorial would be a good idea. And thanks for this other F3 shortcuts.

Ah ok, I think another issue making this transition harder is that I only usually type with my 2 index fingers, so using all my fingers on my left hand is challenging

When I first played in Java I was super awkward as well. It’s really something you have to keep doing to build muscle memory and get used to.

Today I not only play Minecraft Java edition for the first time, but also play with Keyboard & Mouse for the first time (being being a console (controller) player my whole life): I struggled with my finger positions, using all my fingers to move, and using a mouse properly. Any tips to help me get better at playing with a keyboard and mouse?

when ever you are playing on keyboard put you pinky on the control button control is for sprinting remember the right hand pinky put your ring finger on a a is for moving left put your middle finger on w w is for moving forward remember that you can only sprint when you are moving forward and d is for moving right put your pointer finger on d if you made it this far this only works on the qwerty keyboard and I have one let's move on! SOOOOoooo put you thumb on the space bar the spacebar is for jumping and e is above d then you can just easily press the e button the e button is for entering your inventory you can press e again and then the inventory is gone tip you can also not use the 123456789 buttons to scroll the hotbar instead use the scroll wheel and shift is on top of ctrl we can press that button quickly to crouch shift is for crouching and to drop one item at a time press q q is above a thats why you can press q quickly how do you sprint with controller also I have played both versions Java and bedrock so that is the keyboard
