@@adventuremango520 I'm sorry you are confused but you are incorrect. I have been welding for decades. I have been certified in all forms of mig and stick welding. I even spent the last 5 years of my welding career programming robotic welders. This is called a "flush weld" or a "ground flush weld". There isn't a term I am aware of for machining the weld down in a lath or mill to be flush with the surrounding material but its the same process just a different machine. It is hart to tell without higher resolution pictures but this appears to have been ground flush with a flap disk on a grinder. The flange was absolutely welded onto the pipe. You can clearly see the discoloration from the weld ring. The inconsistency variations in the connection point proving it is not a screw connection of any sort. And the undercutting I originally pointed out which is usually caused when the person welding is moving just a little to fast for the mater to lay into the weld as fast as is needed to fill the gap. While it is bad enough that a welder would create such a weld especially on such an obviously precision part. What is unforgivable is that after flush grinding it, they could clearly see their mistake and they left it that way. This would have been an incredibly easy and fast fix, had they cared about the quality of their work.
