Great lesson, thanks. I skimmed the comments and like others I have some blues rock experience but am looking for something new. I'm really liking bluegrass, deceptively simple.

Hiya .. on the tab at 01:45 after the first bit it says play the third string at the 7th fret then the fourth string at the 6th fret, however in the video you say play the 4th string 6 then the third string 7th .. have I made a mistake or have you ??

Is the solo break starting about 1:30 included in the lesson & tab?
@BrandonJohnsonGuitar
@BrandonJohnsonGuitar 14 күн бұрын
I didn't include it, just improvised a solo for the performance. Maybe I should add it? :)
@chrismohr-l3i
@chrismohr-l3i 14 күн бұрын
@@BrandonJohnsonGuitar that would be appreciated (adding the solo) = at least the tab for it. Seems like there's lots of transferable insights in the solo that would not only add to the tune itself, but would provide transferrable insights to crafting solos for other tunes as well.

I like your videos and appreciate the commentary. Other folks on here need to pump the brakes and stop being pricks. I’ve been playing for 22 years or so and just now starting to really get into bluegrass. Keep up the good work 🤙🏼

What about the rhythm? Isn’t the great Wyatt essential to Tony’s beautiful version of this tune? BYW Wyatt is master guitar player in his own right.

Just a note: that barre chord is not an inversion. In music theory, a chord inversion is where the chord or triad is voiced with a different bottom or lowest note. So with a G chord, GBD, an inversion would be voicing the chord BDG. I am not 100% sure but i think the 2nd inversion is where the lowest note is the third of the triad, and the 3rd inversion is the fith of the triad. But that might be wront. It might be the first inversion is the third and the second is the fifth. Cant remember all my music theory atm. When you switch from an open G to a barred G, you are changing the voicing of the chord, since the chord tones are played in a different grouping. But since the bottom note is still a G, it's not inverted. A very common chord inversion on guitar is playing a G/C, where you play an open C with your pinky on the G below it, and play all 6 strings.

As to the enlarged sound hole, I was in a music store that had a small sound hole Dupont (like Django played) and a large oval sound hole Dupont, side by side. I played them both. To me, the smaller sound hole looks cooler, but the large oval sound hole guitar sounded better to me. These were Duponts (or Macafarris or whatever) and not Martins, but I thought the comparison was interesting. I also think the enlarged sound hole OM guitars that Bourgeois makes sound better than their regular ones.

You have the same guitar as I do. But yours sounds better for some reason haha. You have excellent right and left hand strength and technique, and it really brings out the popping-woody potential of the HD-28V.

Hey mate, this just popped up in the feed. Even though it's well past bedtime I have stayed awake long enough to wack it on the playlist with Leo performing it and a short one with John Fahey showing a bit on how to play it. This video is pinned on the fridge and will definitely get me to pick up the guitar after 10 years of not playing. Thanks mate. Only thing left to do is post this message and smash the sub button.
