We came from church on Sundays, to listen in unintelligible jargon about fornication and pagan worship, which was good as long it didn't come through a Fender Stratocaster or. Gibson Les Paul through a Marshall amplifier. As rock was satanic, we were told. Osiris and Zarathustra? Oh, the religious were okay with pagan idols. 😊

Got the earphones (ANC) on. Damn it you're right. Maddy's the best with or without ANC. As another Diva sang "Simply the Best."

Thank you, I wasn't aware of that.

I saw the band in Sydney around 1980 or so. Maddy Prior's voice hasn't changed in all the time in between. Magnificent.

I was picking this out on my ukulele and my girlfriend asked "What song is that ?" and I told her to get out and don't come back.

Jake, simply the finest of all song writers the UK ever produced. A unsung hero, cared less of fame and prominence but all 182 songs written were simply a gift

This song is the only reason I keep coming back to Steeleye Span. I don't care much for their hat song and others, but THIS song is damned impressive! PS: I like the slower studio version better.

A comment on here said of Steeleye personnel being replaced , STEELEYE EVOLVES only replaced on the passing of Band Members , spoke with Maddy at their last performance at the Stables MK & I asked the question how much longer did she intend to perform , the answer was she loves live performance & as long as health is not an issue she will continue , MADDY I LOVE ❤️ YOU ❤️

This is so, sooooo good...and it gets better with each listen!! That bass, that voice!! And the violin just brings me to tears, especially the passage at the end, he could have extended that for 20 minutes and I'd have stayed to listen!! Just superb all round!!

This reminds me of my dad. He was a storyteller and 'Thomas the Rhymer' was one of his favourite fairy tales. Unfortunately, he passed away last year. 😭
