Thanks, Marty! My ancient Ryobi belt sander crapped out while working on this phase of construction, so I had to run out to Harbor Freight in Ellsworth for a quick and cheap replacement. I picked up a Harbor Freight 4"x24" belt sander made up of "Chinesium" to finish the job. Very heavy, noisy, and crude - but it worked well enough to get the job done.👍👍👍

Greetings, Marty! The step design was based on what I had kicking around without having to buy more material. That's my usual approach as I tend to be frugal. BTW - we had a sister storm just a few days later with more flooding and high winds, but it wasn't quite as bad as the one that wiped out all the wharves.

Greetings, Tom! Eric Beal (local lobsterman, town selectman, boatyard and lobster pound owner) was born and raised here. Lived his entire life in Milbridge and he swears he has never experienced storms like these. Excessive high tides with hurricane force winds. You can call it Global Warming, Climate Change, or anything else you want, but our weather systems are certainly changing and the storms have been becoming more powerful than ever before.

Uncanny. yesterday pre-assembled my generator enclosure. The design is VERY similar to what you built. I will be posting the final in-place assembly in a few weeks on my channel. My material cost so far is < $250.
@DowneastThunderCreations
@DowneastThunderCreations 6 ай бұрын
My cost was close to nothing (just a couple of bags of concrete mix) because I built mine from leftover/scrap materials. In fact, I based my design on what materials I had on hand that I didn't have to buy. That's pretty much the way things usually go around here. I tend to be quite frugal.

Thank you for your question, Bonnie, and Merry Christmas! Manually - You can use one of these types of planes: Dado Plane, Rabbet Plane, or Router Plane. Power tool besides CNC: You can use a router in a router table with a straight cutting bit of the proper width or you can use a table saw. Either one should yield satisfactory results. 👍👍👍

@DowneastThunderCreations 7 ай бұрын
My fingers and toes go totally numb, and then the rest of my body starts to get cold. Every now and then, we come inside to warm up our digits so frostbite doesn't set in. Then after a hot cup of tea, we go back out and hit it again. It's a short work day though during this time of year. We are so far east within the eastern time zone, we should really be in the Atlantic time zone. So, it gets pretty dark not very long after 3pm in the afternoon. 👍👍👍

@@DowneastThunderCreations Thanks Paul! I thought I'd be back in time to plant rhubarb last spring. I'm with your wife. Old Florida only exists in our heads. The reality is noise, crowding, way too much traffic, pollution and outright insane people. In 18 months during "covid" 250,000 moved to Florida. Cost of housing, insurance, utilities, etc. have gone insane. Stay warm!

Yeah. I hear you, Marty. BUT....I'm a "Parrot Head" and prefer living on a sailboat based in the Keys (preferably Key West or Stock Island). I get away from the crowds and traffic by casting off the lines. Years ago, I did an extended job in Key West and got around with a bicycle (best way to get around Key West in my opinion). If I get bored with the Keys, I can always hop across to the Bahamas or sail further south through the Caribbean doing a bit of island hopping. That was my intention when I lived on Cape Cod and was running my yacht design practice and wooden boat shop. Then I met my wife! Now we live on land in Downeast Maine. Go figure! 🤣😂

I've seen some forums say that you need a jack stand every 15 feet on either side. What are your thoughts? I have a 25' Catalina that I need to get off the trailer for repairs, so I'm going to fabricate a set of jack stands. I think I need 4 minimum, but I'm afraid of being crushed to death by a sail boat (especially a swing keel which might roll on me instead of tip and instantly crush me) so I am thinking about making 6. Also, if I make the contact points of the jack (the flat head of the pivot point) large enough, do I need to worry about finding a rib to place the jack up under? I guess another question, is do you know of a mechanism I could use to adjust the jack stands under load so I can raise the boat as it is on the stands? I'm sure I'd need to use some spider and pinion gears like in a trailer jack to do, but maybe there's a low-tech mechanical way to go about it. Thanks Paul! ( I read your bio, I was born in 29 Palms (dad was in the Corp)). Thank you for your service!
@DowneastThunderCreations
@DowneastThunderCreations 7 ай бұрын
I would go with a minimum of 7 stands. 3 stands on each side and the 7th supporting the hull directly below the bow. It wouldn't hurt to have a couple of smaller stands under the stern on each side of the keel to help with maneuvering the hull on and off the trailer. You might also consider a number of wooden blocks under the keel to take the weight of the hull. The ACME threads on the jack stands can lift quite a bit of weight when adjusted just a little at a time, especially when you have a number of jack stands (just 4 probably would' not do it). When placing the stands, they should be located ideally where there is a bulkhead or other support structure behind the shell of the hull. Semper Fi 👍👍👍

Almost 5000 subs! YAY!👍Looks like exciting progress & looks good. Your construction is far more more sturdy than an RV. What a surprise that was when I tore up the floor and there was nothing to nail to. Like your way much better. Thanks Paul!😊
@DowneastThunderCreations
@DowneastThunderCreations 7 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's getting pretty close to 5k subs. Been a long time coming! RV's a built light for fuel economy and are not designed for full time living, where Tiny Houses (even though many are built on trailers) are designed to stay in one location for long stretches and lived in year round. If you were to use a tiny house as an RV, the fuel cost would break the bank in no time! They tend to be very heavy and need substantial tow vehicles to move them. 👍👍👍

This thing is a beast! Very well made and heavy-duty. We installed longitudinal 2x6's along the inner trailer sides yesterday to support the floor joists we plan on installing today.
