Nice presentation. I've kept the bubble wrap cover that the lantern came with in the one I purchased, then it doesn't rattle in the plastic protective tube so much.

Ive recently bought the Elan. Good effort by Alpkit. Love the side zip. I agree the head is too low. I think the head could be raised up with a trek poles to save weight of poles - this would allow for larger head area and insect net. For me, I don't need raising at the foot end, but I'd like it wider at the legs becos I move my legs a lot in sleep. I dont peg it out. In extreme survival poles aren't needed - just need a bag to get into and close up. I guess like most bivvy bags it's for the person who's going minimalist & wants some sleep - not for "living in" like a tent

Excellent review! I use mine for ultra cycling rides so I’m usually so tired I’m not bothered by the downsides and think the side entry is excellent. I agree a hoop at the feet end would be a great addition. I paid £109.99 in May 22.

Just bought one really pleased with it. Some might say a chair is a luxury especially for hiking or wild camping but at this weight I’m sure I’ll cope. There is a similar version with is a fair bit lighter but it’s more than three times the price. One issue I’ve heard though is it tends to sink a bit in soft ground there is a base cover that can be purchased for about 15 quid quite expensive considering the cost of the actual seat. Someone on here suggested using jam jar lids as a cheap alternative which Ill probably try before investing in the actual base cover Good honest review

Thanks for your comment. I love this chair, well made, comfortable, light and without breaking the bank, what’s not to like! Reference to the legs sinking into soft sand, I personally use a mat for the legs, this is the one I use! amzn.eu/d/8DU6khk You can use other things, but this mat is light and folds up small, when not in use! 👍

Ok thanks Richard, I just wanted something to help protect the base of the bivvy from damage. Obviously I’d try to clear the area I want to pitch it on, but sometimes bivvy and tent bases are not too robust.
@outdoorswithrichard
@outdoorswithrichard 4 ай бұрын
@timec2002 Makes complete sense! Tarpaulin is a little on the heavier side, compared to the usual footprints. Amazon does offer some different size not too expensive footprints, if you’re after something lighter! amzn.eu/d/ik52QVE 🤔

Very good review. However there might be two issues. I'm also 6'2" and have the same body type. And... I'm also a side sleeper. This being said, @10:06 we clearly see that your top shoulder is almost matching the top of the bivi. And this is a problem since most air mattress are 3" to 4" thick. And when we see you with the full sleep system, you're on your back. So that worries me. Second: I don't know if it's because you've looselsy set the tent or not, but there's a lot of sag, so that worries me vs the rain. Again, very good review. Well done and thank you for that video.

Thanks for your comments and I totally appreciate what you’re saying. Unfortunately I personally feel no bivy is ever perfect, as we are all different in size and at the same time we all want different features in a bivy, however for someone that’s taller and broader, I’ve found this bivy to be the most generous in size and height! 👍

Very Good review, when you hike everybody need to cut on weight finally,so start with titanium items. Myself i do a lot of backpaking about 15/30 km a day and a backpack of 15 or 20 kg makes a lot of difference ,there is not much more else to cut on weight when everything else is also as light as possible (buget restricted offcourse).... I think its the neverending story that we always search for the perfect setup. .....daddy"s got a hobby.. familiar?? You only live once :)

I bought comfy regular size over a year ago and I have been using it a lot I agree it is very comfortable. Unfortunately my pad does not stay inflated all night you will need to inflate during the night. With no weight on pad it will stay inflated but when you put weight on it the pad it losses air. I found no leaks in pad after checking.

@outdoorswithrichard Richard, can you recommend some Bivys please.
@outdoorswithrichard
@outdoorswithrichard 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. In my opinion more expensive isn’t always better! I also think having a bit more room, including internal height, is definitely worth the extra packed weight/size and a much nicer less claustrophobic experience! A side entrance is definitely a must, as a front bivy entrance is a pain getting in and out of! A second mesh door for those warmer nights, so you can roll the outer door up, is also a consideration. With reference to waterproofing, most bivys I’ve tested have been fine, but I always put a tarp over my bivy for extra protection from the elements and as well as room to relax. I really like the GeerTop bivys. Great bivys at a sensible price. Watch all my bivy reviews for my thoughts! Links to where I purchased my bivys are in the descriptions. I also ensure I use a footprint to protect my bivys! 👍

I watched your video in the past and was thinking about getting this blanket. So I watched your video again and a few other ones so I decided to order it. The best deal was actually in the UK Amazon and I'm in Canada. I actually ordered most of my snugpak sleeping bags and mats Etc from Amazon UK from the same seller, Parme in the past. I got the extra large because it's the same price as the regular here in Canada but except here in Canada you would have to pay extra tax and shipping which makes a big difference. The world is going crazy these days, best to get whatever you can before the price goes up like a rocket.

I have this bivy and has served me well on my bike packing adventures. I must admit your certainly right about raising the head , perhaps to another 6 inches tho. I use a trekking pole to raise the foot end of the Elan with a guyline attached to the hoop.. in reducing condensation, I personally use a army poncho over hanged over the Alpkit bivy, works wonders. I personally have not experienced condensation. Manage also to get my bag down inside the bottom end of bivy. Mind you, I am only 5ft 8 inches tall. A honest great review Richard. Summed up the bivy well.

Another good review. I think Geertops waterproofing (seam sealing?) maybe have improved of late... That and the now ludicrous pricing of the Snugpak bivvi make this a very attractive option. I think also it's a better design than the Snugpak. If I was in the market for another bivvi, I would look very closely at this......not in camo though!😂
@outdoorswithrichard
@outdoorswithrichard 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I always think a little extra seam sealing for peace of mind, however in saying that, I do believe, the waterproofing all round, ie seams, have been greatly improved. I think the issue previously was to do with a manufacturing fault, not a design fault. I also think this bivy is far more attractively priced, compared to the Snugpak

I have one, quite like it at the right time and place, and at 6'4" and 105 kgs I can side sleep ok in it, but your "pros and cons" are absolutely spot on. It is now, like a lot of Snugpak stuff, becoming overpriced.

Absolutely love mine. I've used it several times for bikepacking and the packed size and weight (or lack thereof) are fantastic. I've not had any issues with the size. I'm 6'4" and fairly broad and I find I have plenty of room to shuffle around. I'm a side-sleeper, so don't have an issue with the height. I did have a leak once, but that was user error as I'd neglected to do the storm flap up and the zip leaked (there had been beer) - we were on a beach in France at the time and got hit by a storm straight off the Atlantic. As the next day I had a 20 mile ride to the next stop in the pishing rain anyway this was not much of a hardship tbh. Interested to see all the comments about condensation - never actually found it to be a problem.
