The slots on the top of the chest pockets were for radiation dosimeters. They were also used to loop whistle lanyards for field leaders who used whistles.

Bunch of junk actually, as few young people today even know about WW2 let alone the USMC's activities during that war. They just don't care anymore.

Awesome items, just a bit of constructive criticism, the audio volume is hard to hear, a lapel mic would be a great addition to your setup. Aloha and thanks again for sharing these historical items.

Hi The staples in the 1967 sheath are from Boyt Harness Company who made all the sheaths for the USMC Ka-Bar and US Navy Mark 2 knives. All military leather sheaths had the staples and in some cases, double stitching.

Awesome collection. Now all consumers have to do is get Gerber to put these back into production already!. I really like the early 80's Mark II up into 1990. I have the black one in 420HC I think I got it in 2008. I like all the other versions better.

I had one some years ago, sold by an outdoor stores that was going out of business (I think I paid $60 for it). I gave it to my son and someone stole it out of hit tent when he was camping. I should have kept it.

As a collector here in Mexico City, but being from the US, I am curious on your thoughts about the m65 jackets and their value. I agree, NOS or nice patches bring value, but here I can find m65 jackets in og107 for 20-40 dollars each, and woodland m65 jackets for 10-30 dollars each. At what price point would tell bring profit if selling on eBay or in the states? I have 8 first pattern m65’s, another 20 from 1967-1970 with aluminum zippers and another 12 of the brass variety. Here in Mexico, this is where all those jackets everyone was issued when the estate sells and they donate dad’s clothing to goodwill.

A friend of mine who served in Viet nam told me he had a Vietnamese tailor sew a pair of tiger stripe trousers for him, so it's possible that while not an issue item, an item can be no less authentic in terms of its history.
