This is very cool to see! I understand that you practice Hung Gar, Silat & Kickboxing, correct? What about your friend here - same background or different stuff? Rarely do you see people from classical Chinese or SEA martial art backgrounds actually engaging in real sparring (friendly or not). Cheers.

My friend is a Mixed Martial Artist who joined the Army Special Forces. Strong young man and good friend. Yes, my speciality is South East Asian Martial Arts - Kung Fu, Silat, Eskrima, Kickboxing (Thai Boxing). Traditional Martial Arts is wonderful & Makes you strong, especially as you get older. Muay Thai MMA & Kickboxing is also amazing. It is my strong opinion that both are the greatest recipe. Traditional + MMA! Thanks for watching and commenting, have a great day!

beautiful to see.....so many non-martial arts practioners(couch kung fu) have no idea the application...they think it's a silly dance...close-quater combat....being able to feel the other persons strength/energy and anticipate their next move

Sparring, Fighting, Traditional Martial Arts etc..All are good. 😊 I am happy you appreciate the video. Sensitivity training is great, and pushing hands has helped a great deal of wrestlers, sticky hand practitioners and trapping experts!! It definitely has its place in the world of Martial Arts 🥋

I think this video was made around 2006. Liu Shu Chang was a student of Xie Pei Qi. He was a well known shuai jiao practitioner ( wrestler) but after challenging the Dr and being beaten became one of his students. I met him quite a few times when in Beijing, I studied with Xie Pei Qi until his death in 2003 and HeJin Bao his top student. The western guy in the video is Andrew Nugent Head who introduced Yin Style to the west through Dr Xie. MIchael is the Chinese guy in the video, also in Dr Xie's qin na video produced by Andrew and the Association for Traditional Studies

Hi Sifu! Another great Silat video as always! Silat training has opened my eyes and showed my how to think outside the box with fighting tactics. My pole repertoire has changed considerably in such a short time. I have a special 5 dvd set by Herman Suwanda and one of the discs showcases devastating joint locks and takedowns using the pole which is like nothing I've seen in all my years of watching kung fu videos on pole techniques. I had the priviledge of being on the receiving end of some of these techniques when I was in Vegas learning Silat from an excellent teacher, Brian Vancise, so I know firsthand how amazingly effective Silat pole techniques are! I've been wanting to start training with the short stick for the Filipino arts as well as the Silat styles but I'm not sure what a good length is for a short stick. What is the length of the sticks you use for Balintawak? I was thinking of 2.5 ft. or even 3 ft. because 2 ft. seems like it would be too short for fighting/training. I'd greatly appreciate your input! Thanks, Jeff
