Aww thank you so much! So for my profession there is something in place that’s called “work prohibition” as soon as one finds out about their pregnancy in order to protect mom and baby. Some airlines have their cabin crew work in the office until regular maternity leave starts, but mine doesn’t. I guess my airline is way too big for that and it would be absolute chaos if they had hundreds of pregnant women work in the office. Regular maternity leave starts 8 weeks before the due date in Austria and 6 weeks before the due date in Germany. After birth there are 8 weeks of fully paid maternity leave (12 weeks in case of a c-section, if baby is a preemie or if mom is carrying twins). After that there are several options. Austria lets you stay home until baby’s 2nd birthday and Germany offers 3 years of maternity leave (usually the first year of maternity leave is paid at 60-80% of your usual salary, but there are options where you get paid throughout the 2 or 3 years, but you’ll end up getting less money each month). Germany has this really cool thing that’s called nursing period program. The employer has to let the mom nurse for 90 minutes during the work day every day (which is paid time). Since that isn’t possible with my job, cabin crew gets to stay home as long as they nurse the little one - basically receiving their full pay (which is pretty amazing and I really hope this works out for me). I hope this explains things, I know our maternity leave system is quite complex 😅

@@Austrianontravels wow, that's an amazing system, you are very lucky! I've heard that Germany & Austria really look after their mothers & newborns, I didn't realise it was this good! We get 20 weeks paid leave in Queensland, but can get 12 months maternity leave, and an extra can be negotiated if needed. Glad to hear your morning sickness has settled now too :)!

Yeah the maternity leave system is pretty amazing here compared to other countries so I do feel very lucky. Our taxes are pretty high though so we do pay for these benefits with every paycheck, but at least we get something out of our tax payments. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Aww that’s so sweet, the thought alone definitely counts since I don’t have a PO box. I will definitely go back to flying, but not for a while. Over here it’s common that moms stay home with the little ones for 2 to 3 years and my airline offers great part-time contracts so even after that time I’ll get to spend way more time with the little one than if I were to work an office job. I know many flight attendant and purser moms who work one or two trips a month, mainly on the weekends to make sure that daddy is home with the kids, and it seems to work so well for so many of them. Hahaha yeah you remember correctly! I really used to attract medicals like a magnet 😅 How nice! I hope your nephew had a great stay in Austria! Thank you and take care!
