I'm really groovin' to this George Benson program thing KZfaq's got going with Chet Atkins and another American guitar virtuoso genius George did In Asia. It demonstrates Georges' versitality as well as his virtuosity.😊 It was produced, I believe, to treat folks to the width, length, and scale of his talent and attitude towards music in general!😎😎

If you like serious jazz instead of jerkwater commercial pap, you're not gonna be a big fan of Benson. I'm not aware of any big name contemporary jazz guitarists or critics that cite him as an influence or praise him as an important player.

I play alto, soprano, tenor, flute, and clarinet and jammed in a fusion band called Segue. I grew up listening over and over to every major contemporary saxophonist in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. But nobody comes close to Grover. Does anyone know of a legend band that comes close to imitating Grover (and his bassists) that you know of?

People have forgotten how good benson was. Still is. But this was his prime

At 18 minutes isn’t that a Spyra Gyra song? I remember hearing this song in the late ‘80’s at High School Jazz Band competitions in the Philadelphia area. It’s pretty simple, even for the soprano soloist, but it seems fun. Our band (Methacton) never played it, but it would’ve been fun at a festival.

Not a single phone insight, just people enjoying the moment
A keyboard genius taken way too soon.....just like his contemporaries George Duke, Lyle Mays and Chick Corea. Joe played with such feeling. Huge loss to music x

My question is, why would you waste your time playing jazz, when you can play this great music? It boggles my musician brain. I’m impressed their reading skills are up to this. Most jazz players aren’t good sightreaders. Kudos.
