They do that themselves with "trust me bro" as evidence. And then you look at their background and you can pretty much always find some problems that are the cause for them to question who they are and wanting to be anything but. Because the grass looks greener on the other side.

When I go deep into myself to figure out what I have to change and what I truly want to believe, it often brings me to tears. I can't be sure what he's saying is scientifically accurate but my personal experience tells me it is.

I cried for a girl I didnt know well but she hit every empathy switch I had: 1. Initial distrust ( me as creepy old man gave her a gift) 2. Melting of distrust because I made some home made soup to help her sick friend and asked her to take it to her sick freind 3. Opened up to me about emotional exhaustion and drinking problem. I can definately relate 4. Told me she was leaving to help dad and stepdad who both had heart issues 5. She drew what I describe as a "message in a bottle" about how her heart was all chopped up. Handed it to me after drawing it for me for 15 min. The drawing totally wrecked me. Cried myself to sleep and cried 5 hours in my sleep till my pillow was soaked with tears Girl left in a burning bridge mannor and left her friend and just dissapeared I cried 4 times a day for over 9 months. Didnt stop crying at least once a week for this girl and also her freind that she broke with for 2 years.

This does work. Both need to play the part though. It opens a platform to discuss the middle ground for one persons emotional reaction to the other person's statement. Helps understand each others state at that instant and emotional range in general.

Pick a reason, any reason. Some were just slowly desensitized and very gradually. For those people, it was as simple as slowly accepting that "this is what the new world as become." It's easy to see that these people had absolute power over others and that absolute power... was exercised. For others, it was fear. Fear of being persecuted just like their victims. Some did what they felt that they had to do to protect their families from being charged as sympathizers. But you'll only ever really know what a person tells you. It's far to easy to assume that you know what a person's justifications are or were. A group of people can tell you whatever they want, after the fact. And some chose to die. But many had been so thoroughly indoctrinated that they were beyond reaching.
