white person crap. Lord I hope the attitude and understanding has changed in 2024. Note even 2 minutes in: the tone (so condescending), the complete lack of sensitivity and understanding. I remember once being dragged around with friends in Japan because they had this female, white North American university student who had come to Sanyo in Tokyo to witness/study the poverty and vulnerability of Japanese day-worker men. These men, in thousands tried to get work just for that day. At that time you had a monthly card that had to be stamped with days you worked and you had to work a certain amount to qualify to get any government benefits or just starve. I asked her why she needed to come all the way to Japan to see poverty when there was plenty in her own country. Being half Japanese my friends had asked me along to translate. I felt embarrassed for them, understanding their politeness to accommodate the white person and completely disgusted by the white American's ignorant racism.

Why do some have decorations in their hair and some do not?
@G00FY.G00BER..3 күн бұрын
Maiko are in training Geiko/Geisha. Geiko wear more decorative hairpins/hairstyles giving a more youthful look, Geisha wear less hair decorations for a more mature look, as for their kimonos, Geiko wear more patterned or colorful kimonos, and Geisha wear more simple colored and patterned kimonos. Also, Geisha are typically called Geiko in Kyoto and called Geisha everywhere else in Japan.

It's so sad for the Geisha, as such traditions are a wonderful thing and I pray that they know that at least I as a westerners will always think that something so magical and secret is still a wonder from GOD and something so special is mystical and spiritual also.🌺

Some of the Subtitle/CC are wrong. For example, a young apprentice is not “gecko.” They are called “geiko,” meaning art “learning” child. Gecko is a little lizard!

Obnoxious disrespectful behaviour is everywhere as generations become more anti social due to social media addiction. This phenomenon is world wide and not limited to any demographic or race.

Thank you❤I appreciated this extensive documentary In 1976 I painted 30 yards of silk charmeuse which after sewn into kimonos were sold to Bergdorfs, Bonwit Teller and Bendels. Watching the master painting on silk was thrilling for me. The way that silk absorbs color is an experience like no other ❤

I was fortunate to work for a lady whose sister had traveled to Japan and collected original Japanese prints. Her collection was donated to museums at her death. I received an original Japanese print of a lovely chrysanthemum. We had it museum grade matted and framed. It is small but it is not a lithograph copy it’s an original. Thank you Dorothy B Philips and her sister Ruth Philips.

This is an old video, but I'm hoping the world of Geisha can adapt, and grow in a direction which ensures it's health and vitality for another 100 years. Perhaps an expansion of the training period, starting from 12 perhaps until 22. 10 years allows for regular schooling, and a healthier sleep schedule throughout. And perhaps instead of just older men, it can be invitation to anyone of sufficient learning or education in the appropriate areas(academic credits for history, art, or humanities would be a good criterion for guests who are still respectful of the boundaries of Geiko performances. I think it's absolutely possible and important for geisha to survive, as they are a priceless method of cultural protection and historical preservation.
