I used an XL12 with a 16" bar initially and then replaced it with a 20" later. The 20" was a good balance. I have used a Super XL with a 24" and it pulls ok and gives me a better reach on things. Rarely need it for log diameter though. I would like to know if a Super XL can efficently handle a 28" properly without going with semi skip chain. I rarely need anything longer than 20" but sure would like the option of doing a swap out for that rare tree.

If it runs well, has good compression and no air leaks, yes it will. Just take your time and don't rush it

Im 70 and my father bought a new super XL12 in 64. I still have it. It has the wick type filter. and the oil fill is on the top ahead of the handle. no auto oiler. and it has the smaller 5/16 studs to hold the bar on. It needs a new cyl and piston. Dad never cleaned it and the gunk and crud accumulated on the fins and between the crankcase and fuel tank. So it has a badly scored piston. I also have two others a 1960,s XL12 I bought at a auction for $10 and another Xl 12 I assembled from the best parts of several junk saws. I put the bigger 58 CC piston and cyl on it. Used that $10 saw today. Cut some large Red oak blocks of firewood. I always remove the dogs from every saw I use. I can sharpen the chain where it will cut I dont need to force it.

I just put a 28" bar on my blue xl 12. Mcculloch bar semi chisel full comp .050 gauge. It seems to like it. I switched it from an 18 inch bar. Cutting with that hurt my back. I like to stand up and buck.

That black tip of the snorkel should be cut off and thrown away, seagulls will not eat it, it taste bitter. I can do that size in about 30 seconds, clean with the adductor muscle intact, but then again I dig up about 6 five gallon pails at low tide 2 to 3 times a year. Not bragging but we eat them as our normal food, rough chop in blender, add frozen peas, corn and carrots mix, chop onion and flour to make sticky mass, fry and love in a sandwich with mayo.. Num Num

Thats a massive bar for one of these saws. My super xl runs and performs perfect with an 18 inch bar. A 24 inch bar is just a bit too much for one of these old things

I enjoyed the video. I have always used a chainsaw, a limb lopper or a machete for cutting brush. Using an axe is OK if the brush is straight up and down, but if it is growing outwards from the center the tree itself gets in the way of the axe. Now I am in my 60"s and I need a better way to clear miles and miles of trapline saplings each year. I think that when I get one of these, I will cut from right to left until I get the hang of it.

I had one of the Honda brush cutters that I used 12" rip saw blades on, and I found a quick swing at the sapling worked much better trying to cut them down by sawing. Even with a regular trimmer with a rip blade on the brush cutter attachment, a quick swing is easier.
@captainsledge75545 жыл бұрын
Your gonna ruin that saw.... the only thing that kills a chainsaw... is not letting it warm up. You have an aluminum piston and aluminum cylinder expanding at different rates. look up cold siezure. Cant count how many of these ive tore down and had to part out because the previous owner didnt warm it up.. horrible way to kill an antique
@Smittyschainsaws5 жыл бұрын
There is other wood in the background from the same log. I don't think it was a completely cold start. He had it trying on the first pull without the choke. Defiantly a rough start but I don't believe it was a cold start. I think it was already semi warmed up.

@@tjlqk3 I just put up a video of the same saw and I run it a little lean. I'm just waiting for the comments to come in. I have about a dozen of this very same saw and I could care less if I burn one up. The problem is that I have been running it that way so long I'm afraid it won't go.

He used the most reinforced section of the bumper. No reinforcements down the center unless he would have welded a cross member there. The factor crossmember is a few more inches back

I used to haul boat like this with an old massey Ferguson forklift tractor with a full hitch mounted on the front forks. Worked great for manuvering, especially small boats. My ONLY gripe with traillering forwards like this is for bigger trailers, you had to have a spotter to check the sides. Not that i had mirrors on that thing anyway but id rather back in with mirrors intead of staring at the front of the boat
