The Notebooks contain PB’s latest teachings and are considered to be more accurate. However, the Eastern’s highest teachings continue to be valued. His intent was to combine them and his own spiritual experiences with the highest Western Truth. The emphasis was to bring, for the first time in a Western language a comprehensive path to Self-Realization. For PBPF

I once was overpowered by a sense of impending Death . It happened in mundane circumstances - I was changing trains at a railway station . As I walked along the platform I thought I was going to die . When I reached the point where I felt I would fall down the opposite happened . My sense of self expanded so that myself was no longer limited to my mind and body but encompassed everything I could see - from distant land to distant sky . Everything felt like my own Self -my sense of Self permeated all things , both animate and inanimate. It seemed like I was walking around inside my own mind . I understood then what the scriptures meant by the word Self . This sensation lasted for about ten minutes but has remained with me for nearly 35 years When I got home I had a strong desire to read the Sermon on the Mount . I then read it as a non dual document. When Christ said ' love others as ThySelf He wasn't being sentimental or idealistic He Was stating the Truth - others are thySelf . It's All Self . it's all One . It's all Good. 🙏✝️🕉️

Did PB's writings in the notebooks disqualify pieces of what he wrote in the books? It seems to me that he didn’t favor the eastern approach i his later life?

I love your videos, pb, and self discovery as a whole, William Samuel is my favorite teacher. Please do a video on Paul brunton and his thoughts and exposition on mentalism, which I think are some of his best and most important work. Thank you, bless

Commercials are annoying when one tries to meditate on his story. Nevertheless great story. I’m reading his book discover thyself It was the first book I ever bought on spirituality. That was in 1988 I read it loosely. And now the book has resurfaced in my life whilst cleaning out my home. I’m reading it slowly now. This is a gem of a book.

The ego sees as a glimpse what is the eternal state. Is it a moment or is it eternity? If it was eternity, then how could it end and be a glimpse? The briefness was the suspension of the ego-mind not a brief appearance of a cosmic awareness.

Reality is always present with its appearance, you and all manifestation. This makes a glimpse possible. It remains only a glimpse and not enlightenment when the ego lacks the necessary preparation and purification to remain in Reality's rarefied atmosphere. On behalf of PBPF

Thank you for sharing! This is the first time I've heard of Spiritual Glimpses. Differentiating between glimpses and illumination makes perfect sense, and explains why many people who claim to be illuminated (or enlightened) fall back into old, bad habits. Paul Brunton is a true Spiritual Master.

"Karma exists only for the unconscious man. The law of karma exists only for the unconscious man; for the conscious man there exists no law of karma. It is really unconsciousness that makes you suffer. If you do something unconsciously then you will suffer, then karma will be created. ‘Karma’ means unconscious action. If you do something consciously, fully alert, no karma is created. If your act is total, spontaneous, it is finished in that moment. It is atomic, it is not a continuity. It leaves no traces behind. That’s why an enlightened man is unpredictable. Only an unenlightened man is predictable because he moves unconsciously, in a routine way, mechanically. There are no surprises in his life. Somebody loves you, and you love him. Somebody hates you, and you hate him. Somebody comes and praises you and you feel very expanded like a balloon. That’s why people use buttering so much - praising others helps. A Romanian philosopher, Cioran, says that the deepest desire in man is the desire to be praised - one may say, one may not say. Somebody praises you and you fall all for him. And somebody insults you and you become the enemy for ever. These are not actions, these are reactions. The other is using you like a machine, he is pushing your buttons. You are not acting, you are reacting. The other is manipulating you, he knows what to do. A conscious man cannot be manipulated by anybody. His action is not reaction, his action is action. Buddha was insulted, people were abusing him in a village. He stood there, and when they had finished he said, ‘If you are finished can I go now? I have to reach the other village, people will be waiting for me there. If you have not finished yet, soon after a few weeks I will be coming back - then you can do the remaining thing.’ Those people were a little embarrassed. Buddha looked utterly aloof, as if what they were doing had not reached to him. He remained unscratched. They said, ‘But we have been abusing you, sir, we have been insulting you. Are you not going to answer?’ Buddha laughed. He said, ‘If you wanted the answer you should have come at least ten years before. Then I was unconscious, then you could have pushed my buttons and I would have reacted. But now I have become conscious, I have become a Buddha. Now I can see what you want to do to me, and I am not going to be manipulated by anybody. Now I live on my own, now I do what I feel to do. And I don’t feel any anger, I simply feel compassion for you. I feel sorry for you - more so because in the other village before reaching to your village, many people had gathered there and they had brought fruits and sweets to present to me. And I said, “Sorry, I cannot accept them because I have eaten my breakfast and it will be unnecessarily a burden for me to carry these things. Please, you take them back home.” I ask you, what should they have done with those sweets and fruits?’ Somebody from the crowd said, ‘They must have distributed them in the village, they themselves must have eaten them.’ Buddha said, ‘That’s why I feel more sorry for you. Now you have brought these insults and these abuses and I am not going to accept them, what will you do? Now I really feel sorry for you. You can insult, that is your freedom - but to accept it or not is my freedom.’ When consciousness has dawned you act for the first time, you don’t react. An action is beyond the law of karma. The law of karma applies only to the unconscious being. The man of awareness has absolute freedom. No law binds him, no law defines him. He’s as vast as the sky, he’s as infinite as the sky. His freedom is absolute."

I was fortunate enough to have spent about 10 days staying in Siem Reap and exploring the many Angkor temples. At the time, one could climb all over the ruins with only the danger areas roped off. My favorite was the giant heads of Angkor Thom and the galleries of carved walls in Angkor Wat.

Why are we here? That question recurs to me all the time. To suffer seems to be the answer. Then mystics like PB and others have the answer of how to escape suffering by dismissing the world as a dream. Once that happens questions like this no longer arise. When we are in the dream we want to know why are we all dreaming? I have not heard one satisfactory answer from any teacher. My own investigation has revealed that the experience of negativity in the dream is valuable because the human body believes something is really wrong. Nothing can truly ever be wrong but that’s what all this is about we are all being fooled to into believing there is something really wrong and this is why we are here. We are here to reify wrongness. The best teachers see no evil or hear no evil and make no evil come what may.

It was his experience when he was a rather young man. What would make it spiritual to satisfy you? That he embraced each spirit as his dearest new friend and asked their view of the nature of cosmic reality? Stuck souls have little to offer us. They need rescuing but can reject help. I doubt Paul had the ability to rescue them.

Every day before meditation, I read a few paragraphs in the notebooks. I could not have written my dissertation in philosophy without him. I owe him my life. On the basis of the few things I gave learned, I made a hypnotic/meditative exercise for gaining access to our inner detachment, perhaps it can help someone: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iriljZyj29ycqJs.html
