That unique G chord is not really a G chord. It's a C chord with a G root. C/G

HA!!! 10 years later I decide to comment...lol......in the video of him playing, when Johnny does that little "Quack" sound after playing the first hit of the 12 barrs progression, I finally found how hes getting that sound, and what I believe he is doing is bending the "G" string (3rd fret...making it an A#/Bb), up and bringing it back down with a "Pull off". Takes a bit of practice but it works good. Of course this is my opinion, but there will always be someone to comment and say I'm wrong, or its bent up to the 7th minor diatonic flat 5th with a slight C# sound on the root note of Ab......lol
