What year is this? Cause up until the 60s and early 70s, Southern cinema was nowhere as he described. It’s rich in literature, story and acting. And, don’t hate me here but really entertaining unlike Ray’s films. The acting was so top class that some Hollywood acting institutions and studios used them for acting training. The carp we see today started mid 70’s. There were a few good ones but ya 90% is just nonsense.

He was overrated POS, elite mindset of seeing everyone as subhuman cause, you didn't love my kind of cinema. I find Kurosawa better than him, from parallel movies, masala movie and great movies. He touched every genre, but this overrated POS just showed poor India, Hungry India because that's how elite see us at that time.

It's about time we concluded in unison that there is a necessity for both: experimental innovative cinema vis-à-vis commercial mass masala flicks. Satyajit Ray back in his time too knew this pretty well... it's true in India we do have a "fairly backward audience" - not to be mistaken as "uneducated" or "savage", just whose tastes aren't as sharpened as much as those with the privilege of exposure to greater cinema experience from around the world. These are the masses - beaten, bruised, exhausted from their daily mundane life rat race of monotony who want nothing more than a sense of escapism as a form of entertainment - and nothing serves them better than larger-than-life commercial masala flicks (be it from Bollywood or from any of the other industries like Tamil, Kannada, Telugu etc.). These cinemas, irrespective of their lack of logic or sense, connect to these masses - who are just here to have some good time - like in a theme park, without having to use one's head too much. These movies/cinema are the money spinners, revenue generators - not just for the respective producers, but for the entire industry. When producers mint a lot of money through this action masala scheme of business, they're able to pull of many more movies, even the ones that dont make any money - including the so-called "experimental" or art house cinema. Cinema is a commercial art form - No money, No Cinema... Without money you cannot have DOPs, script writers, choreographers, editors, sound engineers, technicians of all sort, let alone the Stars! The entire world fortunately or unfortunately works this way (no wonder even Hollywood has cracked this code and now one sees abundance of those horsecrap Marvel movies). This is perhaps going to be the way forward for the foreseeable future... lots of crap big budget extravagant action movies, and few drops really good cinema (for those with a taste) somewhere in the midst of the ocean of the former. And this is a tried and tested Business Model, noone would dare mess up this workflow, otherwise you end up becoming a Bengali Tollywood industry - which has been struggling to survive for years now because they came to acknowledge the need for this co-existence a bit too late.

See guys south indian filmmakers are very clever.They know marketing strategies.. But our bollywood directors and filmmakers do not know and they also nowadays they don't focus on action films..but focus on emotions,intuitions,and soulful cinemas That is the reason south indian films are liked by people
@robinsonfrancis149847 минут бұрын
The Southern film industry today is not the same as the one in the previous decades. Today, only a small percentage of movies are watchable. On top of that there has been no development in terms of writing. Dialogues are poor. Music sucks big time these days, you hear the same music in every movie. There is also copying of Western style of singing but it does go well with the local language. Heroism is still the staple, especially when it comes to big budget movies. On the whole, there is no development in the industry, it seem to be stuck in a rut. Look at the Korean film industry, despite being far younger , it has managed to produce films and drama that are enjoyed the world over. One of their movies even won Best Picture at the Oscars, not Best Foreign Film, best picture.

@@slayer_142 Among everyone you got their names only. So Sad. The names which u said, they are far better among other Commercial movie makers. RRR won Oscar which was made by Rajamouli and Shankar Sir's Indian(1996) movie was sent for Oscar though it missed. So, Rajkumar Hirani, Shankar and Rajamouli are among top directors in India. Yes, If u personally believe that all Commercial Movies are nonsense then that's a different thing but these directors whom u have mentioned are best Commercial movie makers. Even Shankar Sir's thought was very different and ahead of time but later he changed to target the mass audience. There are many more filmmakers whose name who made bullshit pictures but unfortunately u took those name who are best among Commercial Movies.
