Loved this series. Read the whole thing back in MS. I thought the author conved the atmosphere of each location really well and this was before I watched 28 days or much UK media.

My father was in the Navy as a ordnance mechanic and served most of his time at HMAS Albatross. He often used to take me to the senior sailors mess to enjoy the pool. I can picture exactly what you describe, the roller shutters over the bar, the old post-mix machines. I can also remember being fascinated by the massive framed print of a naked Marilyn Monroe that hung on one wall (not strictly relevant I suppose, just a detail that came back to me after 30 years). I think the sportsman's bar was popular with pilots as they did not have to change out of their flight kit to enter, so they could drop in after work for a quick 'de-brief'. Make sense one might get frustrated if he can't get the Steward's attention following a rough flight. Great story!

Thanks mate! It’s written and the feedback is good! The publisher wants to do it. The process is I pay a small part of the bill and they foot the rest. I still need to have 10k ready but that will put me into the major bookshops next year
