How did you find the surgical center job ? If I do a search, what do I search on ? Plus do you need extra skills than from working in a family practice office ? Also, whats holding me back is that I dont have a certificate on venipuncture. thx

I found the surgical job on an app called Medeley. At the time when I found the job, I’ve only worked in family practice, peds and gyn. I had no ortho experience before or I’ve never worked at a surgery center before. I also don’t have a certificate for venipuncture but I did it during my medical assistant program so I’m not sure if it’s necessary to have one 🤷♀️

hi. as a MA, do you need to be able to take xray for the patient ( like a limited xray does too ) ? or do they go to an imaging center and come back for another appointment ? thx

Hii, at my job there’s an xray tech. MA’s are not required to do X-rays on patients. That’s an xray tech’s job!

I worked for like 6 months but I quit because it wasn’t enough hours and it was always a back and forth with my manager that I didn’t had time for. I would say take a vacation or go to the doctor and get couple sick days so you can rest. Ain’t no job with the stress so take care of you first.

I'm just curious: Are you working for two different healthcare centers? Do they know that you have two jobs at different facilities? I just ask because I'm also considering working two jobs at different places.

At the time yes I was working for 2 companies at the same time. I was a full time Unit secretary working over night until 7:00am in the mornings. Then I would start my per diem medical assistant job from 8am to 4pm. Note that my unit secretary job was 3 days 12 hours and my medical assistant job was per diem (the job will call me whenever someone calls out) In this video it happens that I worked both jobs the same day but it did not happen often. Only my medical assistant job knew I had a full time job so they would call me and ask if I’m available to come in or if I have to work at my other job. But jobs don’t have to know your business cause it’s not their business 😂

The position as a unit secretary at Shore Point Hospital went very well, at least for a while. I developed stage 4 lymphoma after about 10 months into the position and had to take a leave of absence because I could hardly walk due of my left leg swelling coupled with severe pain while standing upright. I'm not sure if Iwill return or want to because of the long hours and not being able to keep my leg elevated at work. I have recently taken a position with Southport Square as a front end receptionist PRN. I have gone through orientation and a few days of training but have not been called for work yet. I appreciate the fact that you have stayed in touch!

Congrats!!!! I would say ask questions and take notes! Write things down, you can always go back to your notes when you don’t remember something.

Congratulations!!!! Don’t be nervous! But I would say speak with confidence when answering the questions, even though this is your first job you have to show them you want to grow in the job and that you can see yourself growing in the company. Definitely ask questions such as the benefits the company has to offer etc.

Very interesting. I worked in a OB office so the registration sheets displayed many familiar terms. More protein and maybe coffee for an overnight shift can be helpful.
